HAHAHAHA Slammin, that was just hilarious to read!

+1 on disposables.. but i actually do a full shave like once a month. I usually use some clippers with a 0... i like to have some scruff.

Cartridge razors with aerosol spray. I've got the Schick Quattro with the trimmer on the other end. I love it, I don't see the need to get anything else.

Basically, if you're shaving with a straight razor you're doing a few things different than your typical shave:
You're wet shaving with soap and a brush
You're shaving with a single sharp blade instead of a cartridge
You're shaving with a blade that needs maintenance (strop/hone)

You should take these things on one at a time so you develop the skill correctly.

First start wet shaving with a cartridge razor
When you have that down (it's pretty easy) try getting a safety razor that uses disposable razor blades--this is very different than a typical cartridge razor. You need to get a feel for shaving with almost no pressure, and maintaining an angle against your skin, etc. Safety razors are easier and less clunky to learn on.
Then go for the straight razor if you're still up to it. You'll need to learn to use a strop and you can send it out to get honed every once in awhile.

It seems like a lot of thought to go into shaving, but most people who just see some youtube video of a guy with a cut throat razor and go out and get one wind up with scars.
LOL I think you, think I am younger then I am. I am 26 and have been shaving for many a years now with the disposable razors., I have that shit down pat.

I was thinking about the safety razor, but I am just going to jump to the cut throat I have a stead hand and have read a lot on the technique. My family also has a furniture business, so I did lots of honing of scissors in my younger years. While I may not have tried to get them perfect I think my technique should be reasonable. The only thing that concerns me is keeping the angle but will see how that gose.

As for the real man option. Well if you don't shave GTFO, this is a thread about shave not becoming the next Jesus.

I meant getting the hang of wet shaving, not shaving with a cartridge razor :p

If you really just want to use a straight razor, then by all means. But much like tracking a fast car, you will be better if you make your way there gradually since you won't have to worry about a proper strop/hone etc. Personally I like my face in one piece more than I want to use a straight razor right-stat-now because it's cool. ;)

Hey now don't exclude me completely, I still have to edge up my neckline every other day...women's disposable razors do the trick just fine, shampoo as my 'shaving cream'

but SRSLY, shaving sucks dry-cured donkey nuts

I just use a Gillette fusion because it was free, and water when possible. My roommates all use the same but with shaving gel/cream...I don't waste money on that crap.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Schick Hydro for the neck once a month does the trick for me. But I have always had some sort of beard one time or another for the last 10 years. I happen to look dumb without one lol

Great movie. I almost didn't recognize it until I got to the "water activated gel scrub"

First off, I would also not recommend jumping into a straight razor. You most likely will find its too tedious, expensive or blood letting before you get good with it. A correct straight shaving setup (not cheapo kit) from septic pencil to razor is about 600 dollars new. Then you have the maintenance, technique and upkeep to keep that straight shaving hack. From experience I wouldn't spend the money again.

This is what I use. When I am in a rush, I use non scented Gillette Fusion gel shaving cream and a three bladed Gillette razor.

What people don't understand is this works perfect 90 percent of the time they just were never taught how to shave right. You shave after a shower - ALWAYS. Next you apply your shaving cream. Shave with the grain, including the switch when you get to the neckline. The grain changes. Then clean the face with a hot cloth and repeat against the grain. You won't get ingrowns and you will hardly knick yourself. For the record, my beard grows fast enough I can shave twice a day. In fact my dad does. (Italian genes.)

For a normal wet shave I use a Schick Krona safety razor with Gillette blades. This was given to me by my brother after I already learned to shave with a straight razor. I have a boar brush and use palmolive or India market Old Spice (made like the old days here) and lather up on my hand (not in a mug.)

Another note - a single blade safety razor will manscape like you've never seen.

For my Sunday's, I have a silver tip badger brush, Taylor of Old Bond street shave cream, my usual Dovo or my Christ resurrected Sunday JR Torrey straight blade, and a fresh strop to trim the beard.

If I grow a beard and need it off quick, I use a Parker disposable blade straight razor. Beats the shit out of the Dovo equivalent with plastic locking system. This was also my entry level equipment back in the day.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

I use that 6 blade job with some sensitive shave gel, works nicely. I always shave with the grain of the hair to avoid razor burn and ingrown hair but then go back and shave in another direction to get that smoothness. The razors are expensive but they last a while. I follow it up with some nivia aftershave balm.
