I use the tried and true piratebay + bittorrent. Works for me. I can't even remember the last time I couldn't find what I was looking for on piratebay.

Spotify is also kind of cool if your always connected to the internet, and don't plan on putting music on an ipod. I mainly use it to keep up to date with new music. New albums released by artists, etc.

This sounds really good on paper, but imagine this, you go update your iphone 5 and all of a sudden all if not most of your itunes is deleted, That is a decent amount of money down the tubes that Apple will not help you get back. Happen to a decent amount of friends who have downloaded music from itunes.

happened to me too, but seams to be better with iCloud. I stopped using a 3GS a year ago, and just upgraded to a 4S. All my apps/podcasts and paid music were ready to be loaded on the new phone.
