I got accepted to study abroad in Valencia, Spain this winter. I was wondering if anyone has been there? Over the weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) I have free days to do pretty much whatever. Any thoughts on places to visit or sights to see, or general knowledge I'd love to hear.

Congratulations!!
I was there in 2008 for Las Fallas festival. HIGHLY recommend the festival if you get a chance to be there in spring.
Raco del Turia - fantastic paella and sangria
Barcode had great tapas
Truly a Spanish city (read: least touristy major city of Spain I traveled to), not a lot of English to be spoken and the subway wasn't as clear cut as Barcelona or Madrid. THE best city for Paella. Also the city I felt most like I might be robbed in, so watch out if you're alone unless you look a lot more Spanish than I do.
Have a great time!!

Perfect those dishes look amazing, definitely added that to my list. How was your spanish when you went? Mine is so so I can speak what needs to be said clearly, but not close to fluent.

yes, you go to ibiza, its cheaper thank you think, because you party all night and sleep for a bit on the beach, no accommodations necessary.
When I was in Spain in '07 it was a total blast. I highly suggest you spend some weekend time in Cadiz and the gibraltar area, maybe take the jet ferry to Morocco.
A friend of mine did a semester in Madrid last year. He greatly enjoyed it. The work load in those programs is usually pretty low, so you have plenty of time to enjoy. BEWARE host families. Sometimes you'll get stuck with douchy people who do it to get paid by the university.--Will

My spanish... I would say is conversational, not fluent but I was fine with my pocket Oxford for backup. I'm sure you'll pick it up fast living there.
