the wife and i went last year for 18 days, traveled over 6,000 kilometers while we were there. i LOVED Valencia, and Carthage the most simply because it was so laid back, awesome food, etc.

what i love is the fact that you go to a tapas bar and order a beer and get free food, so we would just basically do a pub crawl every night in each city we went to, get shit faced on $1.50 beers and get feed for free.

one thing you have to see is the gaudi church in barcelona, freakin amazing. if you need anymore tips on places to see or things to do LMK i have my brother living there now and the wife and i do travel a good bit.

Thanks, for all of the good info! Making me that much more eager to go haha. I'll start doing some more research on the things you all have listed. How did the people usually feel about Americans. A girl I am good friends with in Norway, didn't have very good luck till she started to befriend people at school.

barcelona is a really nice large city, one of the few large cities i'v been to that i like
great food and cheap good wine in espania

never admit to being anything other than american
          be modest
don't raise your voice if the person doesn't understand english
learn a few phrases in spanish, like please and thank you
do the above and you'll have no problems

In my major, I was told "you have too many labs to take, you have a hard major that requires actual school work." It has left me jealous of my friends who went to Italy. The upside? Premed = real job hopes = money to go on vacations later in life.

Valencia is nice. I was there about 15 years ago, we all got hammered and started playing a game of football inside the big fountain in the center of town. It's really big..

The locals thought it was great, the CO of my ship didn't. He had us on restriction until the Mayor of Valencia came aboard that night and commented on how nice it was to see the sailors enjoying the fountain. I was in the wardroom for that reception.. the CO quietly said "yes..." and took us off restriction muttering something about "damned pilots.."

Just for pleasure, traveling Europe with my gf. We can't wait to go back! Would like to spend some time there in the summer, and visit Mallorca and Ibiza.

                    Been to Barcelona, Madrid..

Just be careful when traveling during peak times on the subway if you are in the larger cities.. you will most likely be targeted for pickpocket.. I was, but I caught the motherfucker.

Um, it's pretty chill.. the beaches are nice, and the people are very family oriented. I actually purchased my dog from a family in Barcelona, but they lived out in "the country" and not the city.. they took me to a huge family BBQ and had fresh Paella and all that shit.. it was pretty cool, but I really hate hate hate seafood.. but I did the polite thing and ate my sea cockroach and smiled and washed it down with some nice spanish beer.

Spain was great, but like most places in Europe, the Euro is a killer when converting from USD.

Try not to eat out for every meal, and purchase water from GROCERY STORES and not corner stores.. this goes for food as well. You will save so much money doing this.

Good luck, have fun and post some got-damn pics.

Barcelona (the way they pronounce it sounds like Bartzelona). Very much like having a lisp.
The guys just look so feminine, the way they dress up is totally different compare to the state.
Soccer and Motorsports are big things in Europe.

so is the mullet lol, you will see.

good advice here, one thing. don't be like me and go into a kebab restaurant and ask for a poya kebab, you will be laughed at very badly, make sure you say poyo. poya is dick, poyo is chicken. but in my defense i was pretty shit faced.

You will eat dinner at 10pm then around midnight or later you will head to the bars/clubs and you will party till the sun comes up. Go to bed, wake up the next day and hit the beach for a little while, then take a siesta then wake up and do it all over again. Spain was absolutely unreal.

I've never been there, but my cousins have. They said it was all good up to the part were they asked for directions. Some people are very rude over there when it comes to these kinda questions. Our Spanish is very fluent it just changes a little from the Spanish spoken in Mexico. Anyways best of luck!
