    computer guys

alright, a 2-3 weeks ago, I thought my harddrive died..The next day my mom and i were leaving for connecticut so i just hooked our old dell up for the time being and we left for a week. i came back, ordered a new hd, it came, and i got an error. it said my disk was corrupt. so i flipped out. i asked a friend of mine that works at bestbuy and he said it prolly was my copy of xp..so i had tj send me a new copy of xp which i got thursday..i turn my comp on, put the disc in, and it said some line of errors...so i called the company that made my computer, he had me do some stuff then he finally told me to take 2 of my 3 sticks of ram out..i did and it started working and loading xp..then another set of errors came up..(mind you this is like 10 minutes after hanging up with the dude), so i called up my dad and we were trying to do some other things and i was getting some more errors and i gave up.

    any ideas?

Buy a Mac Mini, you already have the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, see if its the harddrive with the problem or your entire computer.

if the HD is still good, XP should be able to repartition and reformat it during the blue-screen part of the install.

what were the errors you got?

is the drive the only thing on the IDE bus (the ribbon cable going from it to the motherboard)?

test your new hd on a different computer so you know whether or not it is dead. is the new hd SATA or IDE? if it has a SATA interface you may need to load the SATA drivers before installing xp.
