All prototypes and pre-production test cars you see in the desert or the mountains have those Michigan plates, even some euro manufacturers.
The test failure story is an urban myth - that car is engineered to totally modern standards by a huge European manufacturer. It appears to be a chassis they will adapt and share with Chrysler, so they wouldn't take any chances with structure.
I think that story got started because of all the delays - it's just Alfa being Alfa. Just because all those cars are coming off a boat doesn't mean it won't be another year ...or two... 'til we get them...
What will this car cost, anyone know? You could get the turbo 4 model and swap the nice wheels onto it, but I'm not sure they come with manuals.
