Alfa Romeo was always about engines... hate to see that vanish and just become a history note.

        Wow...

..and as JRKOUPE says, the sound they make is amazing! Until I heard those big straight 8s, I had no idea. It's so easy to look at skinny-wheeled historic race car photos and say, oh they're pretty....but to hear one in person..! Holy sh--, they're hairy monsters!

I loved the noise, I loved the snap of it. The Alfa was sort of the ultimate car of its breed before the war.

        1933...think about that..1933...Model A Fords running around...
Funny, they're so dainty with these priceless cars...push that tail out!

        Little car, big engine..

The end of this is great..

alfa has such a rich motorsport history..like ferrari, like porsche..

its a shame they no longer have a large presence here...

and most folks have no idea how diffucult it was to drive the older single seat F1 type cars...they were like buckin broncos.

Here is a link to the largest gathering of Alfa race cars on the West coast for the 100th anniversary of Alfa a couple years ago. https://picasaweb.google.com/1138448...0Alfa100thCSRG

There are some very important cars in there. Such as the Host Kwech GTV from the '71 SCCA Championships I was blown away to see it in person.

A few from the All Italian Day show in Alameda a few years ago.

What my Sprint would look like restored.

A few from the Sonoma Historics 2011, the day after my GTV got killed on my way to work :(

Off topic, but this is one of my favorite shots of the day.

A few more from this years Sonoma Historics.

not the focus of the shot, but still an Alfa, and its a cool shot.

If you guys want more, let me know, I have lots.

It poured that day. The pics with the water are turn 10 at Sears Point, the fastest corner on the track, and arguably the scariest. The really fast guys take that at 100 mph+ without lifting, but I don't have the balls to try it. One mistake and you are eating the wall. You go from rumble strip on the inside to the rumble strip on the outside of the turn next to the wall if your line is right. If you hang a wheel off there, odds are you are going into the wall. The Can Am and most of the IMSA guys didn't even come out and run that day.

                            odd ducks

There were plenty of weird ones in the mix as well....
such as the SZ (Zagato), now called Il Mostro, or The Monster. (but it was fast)

They do race prep and restoration and all kinds of stuff. They once restored one of the aluminum Ford Falcon factory rally cars.
