I understand it completely. I was on a rant.. Just roll with it.

NEVER seen one. A lot of diesels don't make it to CA due to our emissions, not sure if we've even got that one here or not.

I recently bought a 2007 Acura MDX and love it. The cargo space is exceptional for a vehicle in its class and the third row seating is a nice option if I ever need it.

The MDX seems like the defacto standard for SUVs these days. I think the first gen (2001-2006) MDX has way better visibility and less blind spots.

My GF drives one as her daily - an '07 model with about 60K on the clock. Pretty much a trouble free vehicle that's good for DD use. Decent seating for 4 and cargo space (rear seats fold flat for serious hauling or baby-making moments when the mood strikes ;-) ). We've taken a few road trips and highway fuel economy is between 32-34mpg when running around 70mph. For a basic family rig that's good on gas, can do Costco runs and not feel like an absolute boat, it's a good alternative based on my experience.

My wife loves her XC90 V8 Sport and I'm a fan of it too. Mostly city driving for her, puttering around gets between 13-14mpg which I guess isn't bad. The sport has a pretty harsh ride, though, but the seats and steering wheel are fantastic.

You can get one in your price range and imo it's a tasteful choice that'll look good for years to come.

Honestly I like SUV's not a thing wrong with them, I used mine for Getting to work in the northern Canadian oil patch, frozen, desolate, deep snow, 18' mud, Rain, bog, un maintained roads etc

it was also awesome for going off roading, could not get it planted, 4x4 ing is a fun passtime, also it was usefull for the huge snow dumps in the winter...

if you arent using it for these things, whats the point? the diminished social status makes them almost undesirable now.

it seats 5 just like pretty much any mid sized sedan, and only uses 3 times the fuel.

whats not to love? also, there really are only a handfull of propper SUV's the rest are jacked up truck platforms with horrible styling and economy.

(I am presently looking for another Grand Cherokee as a second/3rd car/toy right now)
First person I have seen who had a real use for an SUV.
my 2cents, pass on the SUV get a wagon.

I drive a Z3MC, like I needed to make it to the ER 10min ago. I get crappy mpg, but at the end of the day. :D . No one in a SUV or truck can have that feeling period. Half of the parking lot at work, SUV and trucks, why? They have plenty of uses- driving over the curbs, going to Wal-Mart, picking up the kid at swim practice. Yea I hear ya.

Get kids. Then you will see the need for space, safety and comfort.

You're Z3 is an obvious sign you don't travel with kids. Stop hugging the tree and realize people like SUVs.

If I want a fun ride I will get out the convertible. Though my Flex Limited puts a smile on my face too....

I have always wondered about this:

can you guys in states get diesel land cruisers? Over here that is the #1 choice if you really need reliable 4x4

Now you can, but they cost a lot in good condition/to import
