oh well if the turntable didn't work then you're better off with the $35 dollar one since the belt alone would have made up the difference not counting the needle.

Im more than pleased with it. Not to mention it matches my speakers well with the fake wood grain on the sides haha.

It may be too late for me to suggest, but for a $75 budget I would get after an onkyo TX-8211. you can find them in that price range used with remote.
I like it because even though it is "newer" it is still a solid to frills 2ch stereo unit. No Dolby no thx nothing really. It offers very little adjustment for listening preference so plays fairly flat.
I purchased one off craigs a few years ago and it has never let me down.
I have had on this unit
Def Tech CLR's, Def Tech BP9's, Paradigm Monitor 7's, Paradigm Mini Monitor V2's, Paradigm Atom V2's, and Mirage FRX-7's all sounding very full on this onkyo unit.
