Multiple car accident surgery question for leg.

    Hey,

My names nick, I've been into e30's for about 4 years or so. I have a general question for anyone who may have had any type of serious surgery on their leg and/ or pelvis and might have some information they could share with me.

Three years ago I was run over, backed up over, and run over again by a car. The story is legally over and irrelevant, but it ended with my pelvis being shattered in 3 of the 4 main points and my right leg being completely shattered half way in my fibula but more importantly tibia.

I have a titanium rod in there now with 2 bolts in my ankle, 3 bolts up by my knee, and a plate with 8 screws in my tibia. It took 4 month to walk again with intensive physical therapy but now it's been progressively getting to the point were I experience excruciating pain throughout the majority of every day.

I don't want to be on pain killers everyday so I've started looking online for other options and other people's experiences but haven't really found much information. I'm looking to find as much information as possible before having to schedule back with the surgeon, especially because the work already done has run at circa 75,000 dollars.

If you or someone you know have any knowledge or experience with a similar problem please shoot me a pm with any info you may have.

thanks, I appreciate it more than you know.

    -Nick

Have you had x rays done recently? Over time the pins, rods, bolts CAN come loose and be causing you the discomfort.

This happened to a friend of mine about 4 years after breaking one bone cleanly at the ankle, then when he tried to stand on it, it broke half way through the the other bone then ran up the center of the bone splitting it vertically.

...my bad for wrong section post.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm planning on getting new x-rays done soon as my first move. Guess I'll see what happens.

For anyone else who wants to say sorry for my shit, I appreciate it but just don't. I'm not looking for sympathy ha, just realistic opinions from people who may have some experience, because it's a serious matter for me.

I was going to say something similar to Der Affe, perhaps you need your hardware adjusted. I've had a friend or two that had a plate and they had to get them adjusted over time, especially if you're a younger person. But I'm sure the surgeon should be able to pin point the pain no problem. Good luck with it!

                wow sounds terrible....
as someone who deals with injuries frequently, i would say have an x-ray done to see if your hardware is all tight and what not (as der affe said)

One of my ex-girlfriends mom was in a car wreck, she also had pain all the time. Anyways, she got an implant that was attached to a small beeper like object and all she had to do was turn a dial for the pain to go away. I believe it was using electrical impulses to combat the pain but she went from being an annoying bitch to a pretty cheerful lady.

Not sure on cost?? I think it was a study group type deal, where if you were in enough pain they would sign you up?

                  Hope this helps.

I get the feeling if the OP doesn't want to take pain meds everyday. He probably doesn't want some sort of device planted in his body. I can't blame him. I had a friend of a friend with one of those and it worked great, but the idea of it weirds me out.

At first it most certainly weirded me out but the effects that it had I would be able to live with it. I also figured maybe he just didn't want to go through life all drugged up, so maybe it could help.

Chop off legs, start doing wheel chair racing?

Hope you get this worked out.

                            Try doing yoga.

A guy i work with was in a car wreck and it messed up his back, but he never had surgery. He was constantly in pain, took meds, did physical therapy, ad naseum.

He said the one thing that really worked and got him through it was doing yoga.

I had a few months of back pain, and I tried it, and it worked for me, too.

I know it's not your back, but yoga has a stretching position for just about every muscle group.

pm me your new xrays if you get them

get off the pain meds, take them no more than 2-3 times per week.
