Well I took a semester off from my college because I was paying way too much so I'm currently taking classes at a local college for credits only until I go to another school again in the fall (confusing yes I know), regardless I also have a full time job in which I get good pay. I'm basically going to be going to school full time and have a full time job but I'm free on weekends, but on weekdays, how do you guys deal with getting less sleep? I've been a 10-hour sleep guy all of my life and anything less then that I am extremely frustrated.

How to deal with getting less sleep?

Well, how much sleep is less sleep? I get probably 8 hours a night, sometimes down to 4 hours when the workload gets up there. I pretty much cope by trying to do everything that requires extensive thought in the morning, when possible. Sometimes I'll take a half hour nap in the middle of homework just for a little bit of a refresh. Getting into some kind of rhythm or schedule helped me out a lot, too. I find that I do a lot better if I get up the same time every morning whether I need to or not and try to go to bed within an hour or 2 of some set time.

A teacher of mine in highschool had a poster on his wall: "When you say yes to some things, you say no to many others."
Prioritize. I work a full time job, 2:00pm to 10:30pm, with biweekly mandatory weekends (sat, and sun). I'm only taking one class, but it's five credits and runs 8:00am to 10:00am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. I usually end up with less than 7 hours of good sleep.
You just do what you gotta do. If it gets hard and I want to quit, I always remember the english research papers I did on turn of the century lumberjacks, miners, construction workers, and my poor farmer ancestors. If they could work like they did, then so can I. And if the engineers back then were able to achieve the amazing things they did without the sophisticated technology we have today, it reminds how capable a well trained mind can be.

It took a really long time, but over the past year, I've discovered that the perfect amount of sleep for me is 6.5 hours a night. Any less or any more, and I wake up tired. I used to try to sleep 8 hours a night but would wake up groggy and tired. I find that 6 and a half hours is just right for you to pop out of bed (reasonably) and go through your day without a crash.
Surely, you could spare 6.5 hours a night?'87 325i "Chewey" (RIP, my beloved)

start to schedule around 9 hours, then down to 8. I usually like about 7-8 hours, but if I need to get shit done 4 hours isn't out of the question. Remember that your body can remember sleep deprivation for upto 2 weeks, so do this transition in stages and don't do it drastically. Keep with a set program and schedule--your wakeup time should come naturally.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige

From a pharmacy student's perspective... I can relate lol. But if you're still getting 7-8 hour of sleep and you're still tired, you may be suffering from sleep apnea. I'd recommend a sleep study if that's the case. Are you going to sleep soon after you lay down or does it take you a while? Before suggesting sleep aids, we always council on restfull practices. No caffeine for atleast 4-5 hours before bed, turn the tv off atleast 30 mins before bed, try reading before bed instead, make your sleeping area as comfortable and peacefull as possible, etc. If all else fails... there's always ambien and adderall!

Schedule. I also work and go to school, and when a buddy of mine told me that I'd be 5 minutes late to everything I laughed. That motherfucker was right, I'm 5 minutes late to work every day, and about the same with everything else. Choose your priorities. Mine are school, work, friend, bishes, sleep. I know, not necessarily ideal, but as someone else said, when you say yes to some, you say no to others. These are facts.88 325is - S52 powered
