Has anyone here baught a car from an auction? If so, what were your experiences and how was it? I was thinking about purchasing from one. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

I have. The best advice is figure out what you want and ONLY buy that. Youll be tempted to impulse buy if something comes across the line . I went to buy an e39 and came home with a CLK Benz coupe. What a fucking mistake

I bought a 72 240z with a smoking motor at auction wayyyyyyyy back in the late 80s for $500.
My step dad and i swapped a chev 350 small block and 4speed into it. I drove it for a couple years untill the frame started to twist and the car started to dog walk down the road.

Sold it back at auction for $1400

I'm a dealer. It goes both ways: cars sold on OVE are retail ready. Some cars in the regular lanes are, some aren't. You're typically going to have to put a ton of work into them, they have no maintenance history, are often not kept well, etc.

Same goes for private party. Your best bet is just to buy a car with service records. Even on a car that's relatively retail ready we still have to put 5+ hours labor into. I've bought multiple vehicles with 40+ hours labor into them over the course of 3-4 weeks.

                Auctions aren't that great.

As well, it's tax time. So the demand for used cars skyrockets, everyone wants to spend their return. But their is still the same quantity of supply. So consequently, since customers are willing to pay more for cars, the price at auction jumps as well. Started last week (two fridays ago if you ask me. went to manheim manheim and it was bonkers, whereas the previous friday I bought 2 vehicles for very reasonable prices) and will go until end of march

You can't go wrong buying a parts car from auction. Depending on the auction you will be able to check the car out the day or so before. Shouldn't be any surprises here.

I bought a really nice condition infiniti G20t, engine ran great interior was solid. Had a blown transmission though, expect these issues.

                  Factor in dealer fees.

how do you get information about car auctions and shit? every time i try to find info on them it's always like scam websites or they want you to pay.

public auctions are usually bs. have to find a friend who's a dealer, with a spare auction access card that can bring you. make sure it's an auction that person is already registered at so you just swipe the card at the machine instead of having to go to a teller to register (pic on auction access card)

A saw a 840 go at one for 4000. I bought an 89 325i once with a good bit of nice mods for 1900. Had a biding war because a dealer was trying to get it. I couldn't drive it after so I didn't find out later that both motor mounts were shot. Ended up finding the old owner on here so that was cool/small world like. It's good to buy newer, higher cars because a profit can usually be made.
