Big heavy dive watch you say.............. Marathon then my friend, be careful though if you really want a mechanical as most of the their models are available in both Auto and quartz though the quartz is a fine siwss quartz its still quartz. You will have to find a Marathon on Ebay more than likely, as most of their production is military and only a few left overs are sold to non military customers and Ebay seems to be the best place to get them. Unless you are military and then I think you can order them though your PX

Also a good DD but a bit smaller, is the Seiko SKX007 or anything really with a Seiko 7s26 movement in it, (your not going to find them at the mall jewelry store seiko mechanicals are internet thing in US) they can be had for about 200 bucks New on Ebay. I have been DDing a 007 for nearly 3 years and its still only about a min a month slow need to send it in for a 3 years service some time soon though. The Seiko is prolly the cheapest watch that will last longer than your life time with proper care. And dont let the name seiko scare you, they make great Autos and mechanical movements, they are also one of the few manufacturers left than do all their own movement development in house. I really want to get a Grand Seiko someday, but 5-6k for a seiko no matter the quality is still kinda hard to get over.

Been checking out some used hammys, but I'm kind of stuck on something douchey big. Like a fat dive watch. Not really classy, but I like big watches.

There should be some numbers stamped on the case back of that one, post them up or toss them in google. That way you can narrow down model, movement and value. Either way it's an 80's 2000 series. Price floating around 1-1.5k iirc.

The back of the watch is stamped 273 206. I looked it up the best I knew how found out its kinda rare because it says chronograph on the face and just Heuer on the band apparently most say professional on the face. Havent been able to find much on pricing but if its worth 1k I made out pretty well it cost me 390.

I never had much interest in watches until I started reading through this thread and got the itch. My girlfriend got me Stuhrling skeleton watch for Christmas, which I'm super psyched about. I'm aware it's not the nicest thing ever, but is is without a doubt the nicest watch I've ever owned, so here it is:





Definitely got the bug now, I'll be on the lookout for other cool watches whenever I'm out at pawn shops, thrift stores, etc.

I bought one similiar a month or so ago, not a bad watch. Gets the job done, I bought it because I wanted something that was simple looking and had a brown/tan leather band.

^ Sleeves right, pretty much anything with an ETA movement is going to be a good bet. Some are more reliable than others, but they make movements for some pretty expensive watches and many in house movements are modeled after them. It's going to boil down to style and what brand you want to go with. I'm an Omega fan, primarily because of their history in space flight. Be prepared when you buy a swiss automatic though, they need to be serviced occasionally and repairs can be expensive. A swiss automatic will last your life in properly maintained, but that maintenance isn't cheap. An overhaul on my Speedmaster assuming nothing is broken is about $500 through Omega, maybe half that at a local guy.

Dont know much about watches but I do enjoy them. Just bought this as a daily anybody know anything about them?




edit- been reading parts of this thread recently seems like theres not much love for tags.

Bump it up too 600-800 and look at some new Hamiltons and you should be able to find a plethora of good used Hamiltons for that price as well

Hammies are great Swiss built ETA based movements for the most part and they have many many styles to suit just about anything from Dress up formal event to kicking around the house in the PJ's on sunday and many in between that will go both ways

A "vintage" Tag like yours is a quality piece.
"Modern" Tag's (circa 2005+) have steadily declined in quality.
