It seems like a lot of us know a bit about wristwatches, but only a handful actually have a really nice watch.

I know about Patek's history and their watches, and once held my friends Patek chrono. However, I don't see myself EVER dropping six-figures on a watch no matter how much disposable income I may have.

That wont be a Patek Philippe. The Boxter driver saying he drives a Porsche, the dentist saying he is a Dr.

Either most of you are BS'ing or it is much more common than I thought for average people to drop several thousand or more on a watch. Is it really that important to own a really nice watch? I can appreciate them for sure but unless I was really wealthy, I just could not bring myself to drop that kind of money.

I do have a $5000 bill on my desk for my portion of my son's surgery, that is what I get to drop big money on...

Are the sub $10k ones that you really would want? That's got to be their entry level one. I think I'd rather have a $10k Breitling or IWC, than a $10k Patek.

Emery you have great taste, and your a little more blunt about the fashion watch than I was, I totally agree with that.

Except that IWC, which is GORGEOUS, is like 5x what he wants to spend.

Buddy, if you like the flight watches, Hamilton makes some that are in your range.

I dunno, guys. I'm seeing lots of cheesy fashion-accessory watches in this thread. If you're looking for a fashion accessory, then by all means buy a Hermes. They'll be happy to sell you a matching purse to go with it.

I prefer the simple, classic designs:

Utter garbage. Had two, one of them literally fell apart. TAG fixed it, then didn't waterproof it. Then blamed me saying "you never told us you wanted us to seal it."

tourbilon movements are neat but not my style. nor are the skeleton dials, display backs on traditional dials are more my speed for admiring the movement in action.

Probably more toward sporty. Don't need anything dressy. I wear jeans/polo or button up shirt to work with sneakers.

And we usually don't go anywhere for dinner that jeans/polo won't work either.
If you like TAG Heuer there entry level watch the Formula one. With a bit of shopping you can find a new one in that range. Or a used aquaracer like the one I have.

These are interesting. Out of my price range. But the most unique style.

Maybe if you're in a Midwest college bar.

Any intelligent woman with a shred of class will notice a Patek over some 60mm plastic nixon.

A friend of mine has a family heirloom Patek that's in the six-figure range and it's probably the best looking time piece I've ever seen.
