I have both, 2 cats. A Chocolate Lab, as well as fish and a Guinnea Pig (who will not be eaten no matter how tasty the recipe)

they both have Pro's and con's

I have owned some seriously kick ass cat's in my day though.

I lean slightly more toward Cat

clearly exceptions to the rule, and obvious exageration...but you catch my drift.

    it's a lot of responsibilites.

if I wanna kick back and watch a movie, SURE have kitty come sit on my lap.

I don't want a stankass dog to come curl up with it's crusted button hole and ass breath breathin' and drooling on me...

I love dogs too...but other peoples dogs.

there is no enjoyment having to squat down and wrap your hand in a plastic bag to collect a steamy loaf of poo during dog walks.
not required to have a dog that whines and barks at the slightest sound at 2AM, or just because the furnace turned on.

Having a dog is ALMOST as much attention demanding responsibility as having a baby. I have a 4 year old human boy, and it's similar.

    thats why cats are awesome.
it's like living with a cat version of James May....cool, calm, refined, and just doesn't give a f*ck. Accept him for who he is, and not to conform to having to bust $hit around the house...not to be mistakan as "cute" but just a clumsy dog.

This is why you live on a private road in a rural area. No picking up anyone's shit for me. 8)

The way a dog acts is full indicative of how the owner treats it.

I grew up with a deaf cat and a 70lb German Shepard haha. I like them both but I've become allergic to cats sine ours passed away about 2 years ago so It's a tough call for me.
But currently we've got a German Shepard, we adopted him after his drug dealer owner got sent to prison lol (German Shepard rescue service I think). When we got him he was over 100lbs and the calmest dog I've ever seen, pretty sure the drug dealer had something to do with it ha. Hes down to a healthy 75lbs or so and still calm as hell.

The only cats people like are the ones that act like dogs. Fact.

Cat, but only because my wife wanted one.

    Dogs require too much care.

I was single, there would be no animals in my house.

It freaked out on him but we had already decided to put the little waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles down. He said he wanted to remove the head and send it to a Rabies center for testing. We got a call a few months later saying that everything was 'normal'.
    No way that's normal...

Cats are where its at. They are independent, if they don't like you they will let you know, or just not show themselves. Sometimes they will try and teach you to hunt by bringing you presents in the form of what ever they have caught (often leaving them somewhere you are sure to find them, even if you don't want their offerings.) They tend to pretty quiet (not always, but for the most part) The don't bark at anything and everything (there are few things more annoying than a barking dog, except for a car alarm perhaps.) Yes cats make noise, and sometimes they are irritating, but the volume is much less. They also won't eat your shoes, your carpet, destroy the back yard, the furniture, ect. Sure you have to clean up after them, but for the most part, assuming they are indoor/outdoor cats, they will go outside to use the facilities, and when they are done, they will cover it up and not leave a giant pile for you to step in.

The also don't make the house stink (assuming the litter box is kept clean). I can always tell if someone has a dog the moment I walk into the house because it smells like a dog. People with cats, not so much.

    just my $0.02,
    Will
