Has anyone shipped a 24v e30 to Italy?

I'm in the military and am changing duty stations from Georgia to Italy. I've been trying to find out if I'm going to have any issues with Italian DOT, emissions, etc...due to the engine, driveline, trans, etc...swap. I haven't been able to find anything about shipping a car like this to Italy and I doubt my sponsor would have the answer. Any help would be appreciated!

Lol at the uniqueness of this thread.
GL though brah, Italia has some tough-emission bullshit IIRC.
    That's why they built 320is E30's

1991 BMW 318i (Old Shell RIP, Now Being Re-shelled & Reborn)
    1983 Peugeot 505 STI
    1992 Volvo 240 Wagon

From what I remember it's a non factor because your car is registered under SOFA and does not need to comply Italian stuff.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I'll register my vehicle with "armed forces italy" license plates. I think I'll be good.

You'll be fine. Where you headed? I was stationed in Sicily at Comiso AS to close it quite some time ago. In Sept I spent 8 days at Avanio while waiting for the jet to get fixed.

Went to Rome once and Venice twice.

You won't be able to easily register an engine-swapped car in Italy. Unless you can register it through the armed forces, you're SOL.

I'm headed to Vicenza. I spent a year in Europe (doing the backpacking thing before the military). So far, it's been Ft. Benning and Ft. Bragg...I can't wait to get out to Italy.

I'm pretty sure it is going on a ship. I think it'll be in container though. Are you referring to the potential for rust?

You should be fine for shipping the car, but can you please send be back some Sonas Fiber speakers? They are legendary and made in Vicenza.

That's what I'm saying. If he's able to do it through the military, then I guess he's OK. But it'll be close to impossible to get Italian tags for it. They're very strict about modded cars and engine swaps (especially if you increase displacement).
