lawlz. I practically grew up in Oakland (lived in Alameda as long as I can remember).
Went to Kindergarten-8th grade at some school in the hills,
most of my old friends live in the hills (not hood what-so-ever)
and I rowed for the Oakland Strokes Crew Team for all 4 yrs in high school.

I remember going to that ice rink as a kid lol.

Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice spots in Oakland, and some really nice people trying to clean up the image of that city, but for the majority of the people that live there...it seems as they just want to go down the toilet and bring the city with them.

Granted Jerry Brown didn't help them much (fucken retard, now hes the Governor) there just isn't allot that attracts people to come out to the O. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to recruit young kids to come out and play youth hockey (travel or in house), as most who play this game have a bit of money and when you mention Oakland, they go..."Uh, the Ghetto, yea no thanks, I like coming back to my M5 or CL63 AMG at the end of the night".

I will say this though, as rough of a city as Oakland is, it has character and if they could clean the image up, there is allot of potential growth possibilities there. If you haven't noticed, they are pretty much so forcing allot of the low income families out of the Downtown area with all the new/modern Apartment complexes popping up (rent is out of there possibility). Allot of the people that I speak to on the Regular tell me its a move the city is making, to force the poor and low income black/African american families out of the DT area and into the outskirts.

I have allot of kids I coach that are under privilege kids that can't even afford to play the game, but we find ways to offer them the opportunity because its just not fair, especially for the kids who just want to be kids and have fun, safely. They deserve better, and I'm glad organizations like the San Jose Sharks & NHL are offering things like the "Hockey is For Everyone" program that supports underprivileged kids in low income families an opportunity to get involved with an awesome game like Ice Hockey. Keeps them off the streets, in school, and provides for a better opp for there futures.

I am a Youth Ice Hockey Coach @ Sharks Ice @ Oakland on 18th & San Pablo (Between Telegraph). Its hoody as all fuck out here...Love taking Bart to go coach too. Get off @ 19th Street (Fat Cat Alley) where all the crack heads and tweaks run around. Oakland has made me appreciate where I live thats for sure. :(

I am a Youth Ice Hockey Coach @ Sharks Ice @ Oakland on 18th & San Pablo (Between Telegraph). Its hoody as all fuck out here...I use to drive there, but parking is basicly non-existent, I wont park on the street cuzz I wont have a car to come back to and public parking is F'n Outrageous for a city that is fucken bankrupt. But its not like people would want to come out here and have a nice outing and enjoy themselves anyways, though there is some descent night life starting to come out/develop out there. Yeah, Chris Brown and his cousins seem like they are pretty tough dudes. All his cousins seem to be are kids who know a kid, who happens to be famous. I know a couple of famous dudes, maybe I should drive around yelling and screaming like a douche as well. Once again, this generation has fallen short of the mark. Too much emphasis on station in life, and material things, not enough emphasis on continuing education and hard work. Even if there is an emphasis, kids still think its important to drive around like assholes and act like fools. Fuck this, I'm now angry. I'm going to starbuck's and getting a Latte, then going to ride with Huff. I hope I don't get in a twitter fight on the way.
