That. Put your tools in your car and drive down to the local Kragen, Autozone, Orielly whatever they call it now. Post up and ask people coming out with parts if they need install or any other work. Brakes, batteries, alternators, tune-ups, all super easy stuff to do. People want to save money, which is why they're buying the parts themselves, but the vast majority dont really want to do the work.
I used to do this in LA when I needed money the same day. Always worked. You make some good repeat customers too when you do a good job.
Remember, a good, reliable mechanic is universally hard to find.
Also, go to more well-off areas for this. Poor folks arent going to pay you to do shit.Comment

So I took a lot of your guys' advice and made up some fliers and a craigslist ad for:
-car wash/detail
-yard work
-house cleaning
-babysitting
-dog walking
Tomorrow i will be hitting all of the nicer neighborhoods armed with tape, stapler, and a lot of fliers. As soon as i make $800 (if i do) then the E30 will be on a truck headed towards my driveway!
