Well, my Streamlight can slam on the ground from 10 feet up with no issues. It also comes with 2 rexhargable batteries and option to charge via wall socket or cigarette lighter plug.Comment

Currently building one. Using two 18650 batteries and a CREE MC-E emitter. Should be ~700 lumen when done. Here are some pics (though not up to date).
Inner battery holder.

Exterior view. The end with the heatsink will have a piece that more smoothly connects the heatsink to the tube.

Tailcap that unscrews. Clicky-switch and spring are mounted in the end. You can also see the heatsink and lens in the background.

As far as too bright goes, the LED driver I am using has high, medium, low, strobe and SOS modes.Comment
