        Tried it again. This time using .023" MIG wire straightened out and polished the tungsten tip to a mirror shine. By polishing the tungsten tip, I was able to maintain a stable arc down to 5amps.

          Impressive sir. The fact that your self taught is even more impressive.

          I just picked up my first little welder, a hobart mig. Any truth to learning mig before tig or did you just dive in head first?

            I MIG'd for a few years before purchasing a TIG. I bought the Hobart Handler 190 last year and love it, specially for the price.

            Yeah, the first razor was Friday. Over the Holiday weekend, I red, read, read and read some more - then came in Monday afternoon to try again. Didn't know what a 6g weld was, but now I do :)
