Being reasonable and making it easy, as in not getting on a flight to NY or CA to buy a diamond and setting. Just make sure you wait for a diamond show at any of your local "mall shops" usually happens once a month or so, and make sure you buy the stone "loose" and then pick the setting. Example: 5k for a ring; maybe a 3/4-1 total vs1 or vs2 clarity ideal cut j/I/h color -VS- 4600 for a 1-1.25 loose vvs1 clarity ideal cut e/f/g color + pretty much any setting besides platinum (don't get plat, dulls hella easy) for 400.

Both are 5k, but you will get a much better stone buying it loose, MOST jewelers will not pre-mount anything better than a vs1 or vs2 most stones of higher quality are sold loose.

Btw black diamonds are "in" as yellow was a little ago, I don't imagine you would buy your sig other a black diamond though.

Just had this one made for my 8th anniversary, 3/4 black diamond with my kids and wifes birthstones running mirrored down both sides and surrounded by a conventional white diamond on either side (diamond is my birthstone) in wht gold

I bought the wife a solitaire set in platinum from Tiffany. I thought it was classy, not too over done. Plus my wife has simple taste, she never ever wore jewelry until I gave her that.

I have a few friends who got rings from bluenile online for a good price.

Although not in the USA. I've also been keeping an eye out for engagement/wedding rings... plan on proposing at the end of the year and damn. It's expensive, but luckily my girlfriend isn't flashy. So it helps in choosing, just the saving is gonna kill any and all e30 related activity (ok most of it)

Your best best is to buy a loose diamond from a dealer, then have a custom ring made at a jeweler. The ring/setting is the easy part. Finding a good diamond makes a huge difference.

It's a modified Alpina front end. I closed the fog lights and brake ducts and cut one single large hole in the centre for airflow to the intercooler / rad.

Getting a .75 karat SI2 F diamond for 2200 next week, does that sound pretty reasonable?
                    Comes with documentation.

Went to a diamond dealer for my wife's ring in Sacramento, picked out the diamond I wanted then had it set. Spending a lot of money on jewelry is just silly, put that money away for a rainy day or invest it. I spent $700 and my wife wouldn't trade it for the world.

The 1st one :ohsnap: i bought at an antique shop and cost/appraised for more than any of my e30s. Excellent purchase and worth every penny...for the ring.

For the keepers ring I went to Puerto Rico, to a non chain store in Old San Juan. Another unique piece of jewlery. Again, excellent purchase and worth every penny...for the wife. :D

In both cases, I went unique with stones everywhere and antique looking. I have yet to see anything remotely close to both rings. Good luck sir. A band and a stone doesn't stand out imo.

And remember, you can always upgrade after you have a few years under your belt!
