I despise my job.

I am a waiter at a Chinese restaurant. The work really isnt difficult or bad, it is sometimes hectic but nothing I cannot handle. The sole reason i despise it is my boss. She is an old Chinese lady who does nothing but belittle me, give me shit, and imply i am a bad waiter.

Ever single table i wait on she asks the patrons "how was my service?", then tells me I dont know what hard work is. I fucking hate that bitch. If I didnt have tuition and bills to pay I would be outta there so fast.

Her fucking son who is 27, still hasn't finished his undergrad and is living on her dollar is praised by her and doesn't do half the shit that myself and the other staff does at the restaurant. Today for instance we were slammed, i was taking care of 6 tables at once, he tells her that he has some school work to do and she let him go home and said "oh, he works so hard". Whereas, she tells me that i dont know what hard work is when i am working doubles all the time, and have managed a bike shop back east for 2 years, out sold countless co-workers in another bike shop, run 3 of my own businesses, taken 20 hours a semester, etc.... I want to kill that biotch.

The job isnt terrible. Its decent money, but my boss is what makes it miserable. She is constantly bitching about everything and has cheated several of the other waitresses out of money, yet she constantly brags about being 'so honorable'.

As far as the 'real world' is concerned I have put in more 40 hour weeks and worked harder than anyone i know who is 21 and in school. I know the value of a buck, but i just cannot stand working for some bitch who doesn't know how to treat employees much less run a business.

My job kinda sucks but the guests (hotel guests) love me and my service, esp. when I flirt with the female guests and my female co-workers in the restaurant and the lounge servers. Has made me some good coin, esp. when you consider all i do is eat and deliver food and get $$. The job is actually unionized so it's pretty slack too.

Gotta look for another waiter job as my hours have been cut to a few days a week. I find that my voice lessons really help me to speak clearly and project my voice so guests always find me very pesentable compared to my co-workers who are 48+ YO asian dudes who engrish is a second language for them...the white folk love me, even tho i aint' white :)

I say find new job that you can demonstrate your serving skils. Always smile when introduing youself at an interview (make sure it's genuine, imagine you just got fantastic news). and finally, find ways to enjoy yourself at work, whatever your job is (flirting with chics always makes your day go a little smoother and guests will see that and your smile will become infectious and make them wanna smile too...which means a better tip for you in the end :D).

I make more now per hour than I did as an intermediate accountant after I had years of work exp. and a bachlor's degree, (b4 I dropped outta my CGA designation program).

always hated working in hospitality. used to do catering, would avg. 55hr weeks, but thats from a thurs-sunday, would be FUCKING INSANITY by late saturday-sunday am.

slept in my car a few times at 4am knowing i had to be in at 8am. try leaving the night before around midnight, come in at 8am. work all day, buffets, few weddings, then two huge parties at night, so lets say a good 1300 people through the place in this day. kitchen staff is 6 guys. finally get all the parties done at 3am, now what? well lets just decide we are scrubbing the fucking kitchen now! fuck that. not for 8/hr im not!

worst was i couldn't quit, i'd try and it wouldn't work. i got fired every few weeks, but somehow never made it out of the parking lot before my phone was ringing and the exec. chef was on my ass to get back to work.



now there were some perks; cooking whatever i wanted for lunch/dinner/breakfast(kobe beef with an egg on top and some provalone for bfest), being on the floor cutting prime rib and flirting with nice ladies, the crew we had was pretty lax.


but glad im out, and hope i stay out! they never took me out of the system and i have a fear i will somehow end up in that kitchen come spring. lol

If you don't need the reference, just stop showing up and get a new job...I did that when I worked as an accountant/service writer for a boss that just despised me. no negative reprocussions 6 years later :)

I'm the only white waiter there....i make on average 10-40% more than my non-English speaking counter parts. That's the one reason i like it. All the older white folks/families leave me very nice tips, but when i get the chinese exchange students or chinese people i get shit tips because i dont understand a word they say and they hate it.

I am very lucky to have the job I have though the long hours and months away from my family and home SUCK bad. Op you have nothing to bitch about, You do have it easy. Bosses suck, get used to lol.
