    classic insurance

so guys, a friend of mine is trying to get classic insurance for her 88 vert. no one wants to do it. it's her second car, kept in a garage and still they wont take it. how do you guys do it? they keep telling her that it's not worth enough to quallify for classic insurance. she has tried 3 different insurance companies. one was haggerties, another was njm and not sure of the third. so, whats the trick to getting our beloved e30's classic status?

Same reason you can't get classic/collectors insurance on an '88 Tempo.

how many tempo forums are out there? e30's are not tempos. i know some of us do have classic insurance and i am just wondering what the requirments are.

        M3s and fully-restored or heavily-modified e30s.

Call up American collector, regular ins co won't do it, as you've seen

Have the car appraised, prove the value. If it's actually worth $2000 then I'm not surprised nobody will cover it.

Why wouldn't they cover it? That is the business they are in. 2 hundred or 2 million - the premium is just different.

I tried this as a way to avoid emissions testing here in AZ.
It works if you tell them your car is super collectable, rare, and is mint. They may want pics but say its worth over $10k for sure. Who cares if your car is over insured.. :) Seemed pretty dumb to me too..

Probably your best bet. They will want pics to prove condition, so get car detailed nicely before by a professional.

I spoke with a Hagerty rep last week. He told me that according to their rate sheets, an E30 classified as a "good daily driver" is worth an average of $7,500; a fully restored non-M3 tops out around $11,000.

                          Ding!

American Collectors told me they didn't want to insure my car because it was a "Drivers Car", but Hagerty's accepted it?

                          Go figure
