    ¿Vamos a Mexico?

    So,
I want to check out Mexico.
I almost went a few nights ago with my parents' Volvo but pussied out and went to a DP in Pacific Beach instead.
So, how many of you guys have been? (via automobile?)
I bringing my Bimmer down in a few weeks, and I was thinking of going in that - thought I might be (not) be hassled with my german plates, with Cali plates off?
I honestly have no idea what I'm talking about..
A bunch of friends have been, many friends tell me not to go, and my parents' trip over the matter.

What does r3v say? Any tips?
    Gracias!

I could go to Mexico but then I remember that I like my limbs attached to the rest of my body...

Park in a lot, walk across. Stash cab fare in your sock just in case.

Why would you take your plates off? The border area is pretty sketchy but there are better areas. Some roads are really terrible, and it's not a good idea to drive at night. I drove down to San Felipe a couple of years ago and one part of the highway got detoured onto a dirt road for several miles. Only got stopped once (army checkpoint) and it went smoothly. The wait to get in at the border has never been less than two hours for me, and at Mexicali it was 140 degrees!

I would never drive in Mexico. I've walked across the border to Tijuana plenty of times, but never driven anywhere. There's a reason all the cars are banged to shit, no speed limits, no traffic law enforcement, nada. If someone hits your e30, they could give a fuck. If you hit someone, prepare to get solicieted for a bribe.

If you wanna hit any of the nice areas, you have to fly.

if you go, dont fuck around or appear as though you have money. A family I know (incredibly wealthy family) was vacationing in Mexico, and their son was out at a club spending money like it was going out of style/being a drunk asshole. Mexican federales picked him up, put him in jail, and informed his family....his 'bail' was $200k no joke. Family paid.

Lesson learned, dont be a drunk rich white kid in mexico. Or at least be low key.

My dad drove from Washington down to Cabo in a Excursion a couple years back. He said it was hands down the best road trip ever. My Uncle has done the Baja a few times on a motorcycle.

I've been to Mexico 3 times in the last month without a passport to my name. I'm white with luscious hair and a valid california driver's licence so I was never really hassled. I managed to pick up a passport two weeks ago so that I could spend a week and a half in Nicaragua on an epic surf trip (which was nothing short of epic).

We've driven into Mexico every single time. I don't care much for TJ, but we do hit up Rosarito, Ensenada, San Miguel, La Bufadora, and little surf spots all along the Baja Coast.
Baja is way more safe than Mainland Mexico. Mainland is where shit goes down. If you take your car and want to be safe, get some international car insurance that is good in mexico. A little gas station on the right before the border crossing sells some if I recall correctly.

We go out there to surf all the time. If I can do it, you can do it.
