Thread is relevant to my interest. I'm thinking about selling my Cherokee to either get another E30 or something else. Must get better than 25 mpgs. I figure I can sell the Jeep for anywhere between 3-4k so keep that in mind too.

Im in the same boat as Danny. My Cherokee sucks ass when it comes to gas mileage. My dads full size diesel truck gets better mpg. I have been looking at VW diesels so I could have another cool little car to mess around with when I am working on the e30.

What do you get for mpg in your Jeep, I get about 19 commuting to school? I would like a mk1 golf diesel, seems like it would be pretty fun to cruise around in.

Right around 19-20 on the Freeway. I have a 3" lift and 31s with the 5speed and stock gears.

Exact same thing that I have. I thought about swapping the 4.0 for any sort of diesel but that would take more time and money than its worth.

suburu justy, is also related to the geo metro and made by suzuki.

however it is the only one that was sold in america with awd. That model is worth buying in a shell even the only awd car sold in america over 40 mpg still to this day.

Go for the MK1 diesels. Cool body style, still euro, and you can mod them if you want. Coils/wheels/interiors etc. Eventually a TDI swap ;)

You said mileage sooo...my sister has/had an '02 Honda Civic, 1.7(?) AT. On the round trip between NY & NC a few years ago, with an avg speed of 60-65mph, we got 40mpg on the way down(90mph thru LI/NY/NJ @ 3am), and 42mpg on the way back up. Any faster than that and we'd have been pegged for speeding(NY plates) and my numbnut sister brought a 12" bong along but failed to break the news till we were in NJ.

Good guys there, and tons of info for the swift, sprint, metro, barina and firefly ( all sister models)

Parts are relatively cheap and they are pretty easy to work on. I would have to say go with a VW, plus you can make them look good in the process. Make sure you find one that waas decently taken care of or learn to fix diesel engines because if you need a mechanic, they are super pricey. Good luck finding something and pm me if you have anymore diesel questions, thats what I am really big in to.
I'd much rather lean towards a VW than a metro, just because they can actually look decent, then again, I'm buy a car for mpg's not looks ;)

There are ZERO festivas/fiestas for sale around me for 500 miles......yup I'm serious.

                        did i get that right?
Not only that but I need a DD, a car that I am ok with getting scratched up by college students, something I can beat around with and something that will make me forget about my E30 while I'm at school. I did horribly at Drexel because I kept my E30 on campus...lots of late night fun to be had in philadelphia with an E30 which caused my grades to plummet ;)

I would rather NOT own a swapped honda civic haha. I just can't.

they all lose the battle with the metro for gas mileage, and they have less interior room ( being shorter and wider.)

However especially the fiesta is much more reliable as its made by mazda. The festiva is designed by mazda, but made by kia. And the aspire is just straight kia crap.
in eurasia those cars were called the mazda 2.
Those are all under 1000$ in perfect condition lol.

A real pimpin metro is the old convertible.
                        only in 3 cylinder though.

the geo storm isuzu impulse is definitely sporty but it doesnt get to 40...

there is also the old school hyundai accent it got 40 mpg.
I was looking at the hyundai accent. The problem with the Fords is that there are none for more than 500 miles from me...which is strange lol

You already put a lot into your 24v e30. Put some of that 2k into your e30 for any needed maintenance and you will be getting great gas milage and have a reliable car.
I need a car to beat around with! Haha, my E30 is becoming too precious for me to beat around with, it hasn't seen past 4000rpm in over a month :D

always had a thing for them. I think I'm leaning towards one of those than a Geo/Suzuki

I actually just bought a 2.79 and am installing it in my E30 this weekend. It'll be dog slow with an M50.

I'd look into an older diesel benz, or a mk1 diesel rabbit. Although I haven't had any experience, I've heard nothing but good things. I've actually seen some mk3 turbo diesels, but they're decently rare and people ask for far more than 2k for them.

What about a 524td? If you can find one.

older diesel benz don't get that great gas mileage, about the same I can push out of my E30. There are actually 2 E28 diesels but I haven't looked into it.

Dude do you know how little I give a shit about people in motorcycles? I can't even imagine what the rest of the population thinks when they see a motorcycle, I don't want to die.
