I bought the Milwaukee impact set. 1/2 and 3/8, 2 18v batteries, charger, and same battery operated flashlight. It was $500? Maybe $400. I've put mine through hell and they work great. I love them.

The 1/2" is 450ft/lbs and the 3/8" is 125ft/lbs. Although the 3/8" has been able to get bolts that a "200ft/lb" makita couldn't get.

It's really good value for the money. 2 friends of mine also have this set.

I got the Craftsman 19.2v impact a while back and I love it! Thing kicks ass, it will take off cylinder head bolts without issue.

I have this one as well, and it works great. I also have the corded HF gun, and I always felt it served its purpose, it just hard to use in tight spots or under a car on jack stands. Watch for a sale at sears, I got the craftsman cordless for $99 on sale.

I have the Snap-On 1/2" and 3/8"... Use the 3/8 for most everything, only really use air for grinding, and air hammer anymore.

electric is far more convenient and nowadays almost as strong. No noisy compressor and there is no air cable to deal with.

I also have the Craftsman. I bought it on line when it was on sale and with an added discount code it was less then $100. Battery included. Works great for wheel lugs. I've been working on my Blazer and used it for axle nuts, tie rods, ball joints, sway bars. It wasn't enough to get all the bolts out of my spring shackles and spring bushings. The one that wasn't froze came right out but the others I had to burn out.

I wish I would of bought one of these a long time ago. I also bought the reciprocating saw that uses the same battery. It works good also.

I've used the Ryobi one and I was content with it. Mainly used it for driving bolts into wood so no automotive applications yet.

Depends on what you plan to use it for.

I have a 1/2" Snap on that I use ALL THE TIME, it's a BEAST and since I got it my 1/2" air impact has been gathering dust.

I also have a 3/8" but don't use it all that much.

I would recommend getting the best one you can for the $$ you have to spend (duh!). I would recommend a USED Snap On 1/2" over most anything else. I'm not generally a tool snob or a Snap On fanboi, but this thing is AMAZING.

Most of the ones built for construction won't pull a lug nut off without breaking it first. You need the stronger automotive grade ones for that. I have a Makita, strongest rated one in Home Depot and I still have to break the nuts before the impact will take them off. I think it was rated to ~130lbs / ft, which should work considering I only torque to ~90, but nope.
