Amazon to start streaming TV for $79 a year?

Yah but I go into bedroom. Get into bed. Set TV to sleep 60 minutes. Adult Swim. Done. No going on Hulu or Amazon and streaming it over via HDMI or some other method. It's just easier that way.

So I can get in my car and drive somewhere? And then end up spending money on food/drink away from my house. I'd much rather watch my favorite college football game in my recliner at my house... and I already have Pizza Rolls and Mountain Dew at my house ;) lulz

I have enough E30s and don't need more... unless it's a vert. I just find what we have, it's reliability and my needs. It works well. The other options offering equal to what I have(IE does not require watching on my computer and carrying a laptop around with an HDMI cable) are not cheaper. I can give up features/ease of use for less of course. I don't want to.

You do know that devices allow you to stream directly to a TV without a computer right? Remote and all. Play a 40 minute show and goes silent after that... no commercials interrupting you... Your main concern is not hooking up a laptop but Roku, Wii, Sony BD players all avoid laptops.

Most college football games I want are on free antenna... but I guess paying $2k a year is worth the few games that aren't on network TV.

E30 was just a comparison of value. $2k/year invested at 5% is $25,000 in 10 years. You could afford to actually go to a few games with that $$.

That does work great if your home to watch it(very jealous of you working from home ATM), I pay $183 for high speed internet at all 3 of our family's properties and can watch the same content at any of them regardless of who the local cable provider is. :)

My "DVR/cablebox" works pretty much anywhere there is high speed internet and gets the same channels everywhere, including channels that comcast does not offer. ;)



At our primary home we use aTVs to get content from the mini's which act as local streaming servers to each TV.

You do know that devices allow you to stream directly to a TV without a computer right? Remote and all. Play a 40 minute show and goes silent after that... no commercials interrupting you... Your main concern is not hooking up a laptop but Roku, Wii, Sony BD players all avoid laptops.

No it's not my assumption... My Blu-Ray player has Netflix on it with built-in WiFi. Still I cannot watch this week's episode of Eastbound and Down. It won't have Game of Thrones Sunday night April 1st. It also does not have any College or NFL football games. No MLB. No Formula 1. No Aussie V8 Supercars. It has last years season of The Office... I think. Oh and it has the Senna movie. It also have a lot of Horror movies and I love Netflix for that.

Yes it would. If I went and bought another Blu-Ray player with built in WiFi. Simply put I just don't care. I am not rich by any stretch but paying 200 a month(65 of which is the internet with speed boost - which is a business expense) is not outrageous to me. I want to watch certain things and I want to record them live and watch them when I want. I don't want to wait till 6 months later to see it on Netflix. Or find it and stream it on Hulu on some device(laptop, some digital box or whatever).



Again... no one wants to answer the question. If it is so outrageous why has no one come in to offer an equal solution for much cheaper? It's easy to go "Is F1 worth 2,000 dollars?" Well of course not but I watch more than that. Switching between NASCAR Bristol, NCAA Tourney and some news.

I think what ticks me off the worst part is the no customer incentive to stay vs jump from company to company every 24 months. Also the fact that in your last 4 months they jack your rates to make up any money that you did save during the previous 20 months renders their bundle packages to shit.

Yup, with Comcast if you threaten to cancel on the Customer Loyalty line, they'll hook you up at a better promo rate. If not, hang up and try again. Comcast customer service are given rewards for keeping customers who want to drop them. Think Verizon ought to be similar, maybe. But completely treats new customers better than old.

Some market research call center person called for a third party company, asking about Comcast and I told them what most would say... if there was a viable alternative I'd switch immediately and I was unhappy with Comcast's service. And tied of them jacking up the rates on customers.

So will most companies offering a service. I have had a Comcast account straight(in 3 different states) for over 10 years. If I call with an issue I get a discount, credit or something. Sprint I have had even longer and get similar results if there are issues.

That is worth something to me. I call and shit gets done.

I use Verizon FIOS in my area. I have a 35Mbps down/up connection on fiber optic (it's pretty sick) and I have like 200 channels. I don't watch TV (maybe 3 times in 2 months since I've owned it), but it was cheaper to double up. (They do this so you don't de-bundle and get a much better value on TV services, like through DirecTV.. DirecTV is actually pretty awesome.) I pay $89 per month through my company, and I make 10% off my own bill every month.

Honestly, the best value in TV in the nation is DirecTV and Dish network. If you think about it, television is ALL about advertising and commercials. Do you think it really costs these companies billions of dollars to provide all these commercials to you? Fuck no. That is why they are making record breaking profits.

If you are an avid TV watcher, seriously consider DirecTV or Dish, they typically have free installation, free DVR's, free HD receivers for up to like 5 or 6 TV's, and their prices are bonkers low (I think it's like $130/mo for their "everything" pack which has all the crazy sports networks and movie channels.)

In terms of internet, you are basically limited to what they have in your area. I am very fortunate to have some of the best residential internet in the nation in my neighborhood. My house qualifies for a 150mbps down/50mbps up connection.. but it's like $200 a month.

I can't do anything satellite. Lots of friends have it and tell me I am getting 'ripped off' and I go to their house. Storm hits. No TV. They tell me 'this never happens'... yet everytime I am there and it is storming(a common thing here in GA) their TV goes out. Same shit at my uncles house.

The last time my TV went out... I can't even remember. My internet has not worked at an odd overnight time 6 months ago.

I guess if you're willing to pay $50-60 more every month for TV so that when it storms you can sit comfortably and watch soaps and reality TV shows then by all means, go for it. I'd rather spend that money on my kid or an awesome meal.

Ummm... Soaps and Reality TV? I mean I watch Gold Rush on Discovery but I am not watching random bullshit. But to your point yes it is worth 50 dollars a month to have something that works as advertised all the time.

when I can get a high capacity phone data plan with 4g that i can use as a hotspot and it costs me $40/month or less, i'll upgrade my phone and drop comcast internet altogether.
