I grew up with one, my mom bought one new in 88 and kept it 14 years. It required a ton of maintenance, brakes, transmissions(she had the gas 6 cylinder), constant rust problems, and plagued by over heating problems. I bought a Wagoneer which is a very similar truck and in comparison it required almost nothing. The Land Cruiser is a great car, don't think for one minute its a cheap reliable Japanese car! It certainly won't go down in value until gas goes up...
QFT. I can attest to the many issues this car had.
I also owned a 90 4runner and I can say from experience that you shouldn't buy an older Toyota truck that hasn't been taken very well care of.

Any older toyota with the 22r or 22re 4cyl is absolutely bulletproof, even with crap maintenance. the 6cyl is quite a bit more problematic. fj60's rock, but are not cheap to keep rockin'.

I had the 3vze. What a pain in the ass motor to work on it was.
