1985 Toyota Land Cruiser 4cyl Turbo Diesel

Well I just got back from checking out a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser. Its the turbo diesel 4cyl engine, The current owner bought it in Oregon, and drove it all over the west coast for a surf trip, then she moved out here to Hawaii. The entire family owns Land Cruisers, anyway the truck is originally from Canada. What can you guys tell me about these things? I'm not really familiar with the 4cyl turbo diesel in these. It drove nice, its pretty clean (a few rust spots here and there), they are asking $12k b/o. It has over 400km on it. Here are some photo's of the actual truck:

Going to do some more research on this particular model but thought I'd try and get some input here, thanks guys and gals!

ANYTHING that hasn't been at least mechanically restored at that price and mileage is just plain silly, regardless of the name on the front.
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

its a 4 cylinder its going to be a 3b, which is a NA unless it has a aftermarket turbo? Something that isn't uncommon. These engines need the extra power, they were only around 90hp stock and after 400km many have likely escaped.

60 series trucks are awful for rot and I highly doubt "a few spots" is going to be just that did you check around the windscreen and rain gutters? I would hard for filler on that truck, depending where in Canada it came from.

400,000 km isn't something that would worry me because 60-series trucks are pretty much bullet proof as long as it has had the maintenance done and you regularly see them with 5 or 600 on them. I actually was looking at a bj60 a few years ago that had 630,000k and had never been opened up, but body was trashed, a common theme.

12k is expensive for that truck, no way around it, even with the toyota diesel tax. I know you are in Hawaii but couldn't you buy a ford ranger or something like that for much less?

love these things, they really hold value and are amazing off road, but like has been said, $12k is steep.
I think you could actually import one from Japan for less, and it would only have 50-80k Km on it.

I grew up with one, my mom bought one new in 88 and kept it 14 years. It required a ton of maintenance, brakes, transmissions(she had the gas 6 cylinder), constant rust problems, and plagued by over heating problems. I bought a Wagoneer which is a very similar truck and in comparison it required almost nothing. The Land Cruiser is a great car, don't think for one minute its a cheap reliable Japanese car! It certainly won't go down in value until gas goes up...

It should be cheap as shit for you to get one in HI from japan, 1987 and older...

It's only a grand to have one shipped out to Long Beach, check them out.....
