    Some of my photography... again.

these were shot with a 35mm pentax zxL then the negatives were scanned to CD and minimal photoshopping was done (resize, brightness, contrast, colors) nothing crazy. let me know what you think! All high res available too.

    thanks for looking!

i like the "texture" that the yellowish one has, good for like a random background or something for more some other art, some other PS'ing.

they all suck except the third one which is ok. first one would be badass if the stick was removed and the spider was centerd more on the pole. Oh and the last one looks like its for a jeans commercial.

The flash is too bright in the first and last pictures.

And fuck spiders, I got bit by one over the weekend and now I can barely walk.

Dan, you've taken much nicer pictures before. Post some of them.

I don't think gay porn is "appropriate" for an automotive forum.

But seriously, they all suck ass. except for the first one. which is actually pretty cool.

I'm not sure you want a critique so i'll say this off the bat. The colors are absolutely great in these shots, i love them and i really like the last shot, it is my favorite out of the four. With that said, if you don't want a critique, ignore this part and scroll down.

Mind you, I'm doing this because all I want is to help a fellow Photog out, I'm not trying to be malicious or Elitist, just honest.

                              1. The cyans/blues and the oranges offset each other very very nicely. I'm well aware it's a night shot so the aperture was wide open when you shot. I would've liked it if the aperture was stopped down a bit so that the fence links and the bar were more in focus. The bokeh in the background is nice, but the stick is quite distracting. The spider is fucking badass, it's a one of a kind shot, very eery.

                              2. I have no idea what it is. On first glances, i want to say it's some sort of brush on fire? It definitely has the artsy/abstract feel to it due to the lack of anything clearly in focus, but it also has that "Wtf" feel to it dues to the lack of anything clearly in focus. You shot directly into a light source so it's got a HUGE hotspot as if you were looking directly at a UFO or something. On the top two corners, it looks as if something is framing the rest of the photo, i'm not sure if you were trying to convey the light as your main focal point, but because of the framing, that's what it becomes. When my eyes come over the light, there's nothing there and i immediately lose interest.

                              3. First off, Huuuuuge hot spot on the right. is that the sun? You were probably aiming for the Pine needles/branch to be your main focal point/subject correct? if so, you'd have a better shot by adhering to the rule of thirds. I know it's cliche' but it's also very useful. In my opinion, if you moved your camera more to the left and a bit lower, this shot would be awesome. Albeit, i don't know what's over there, if it were pitch black and the needles were lit up just the way they were, it might make a nice stock photo shot.

                              4. I love this shot, it just feels casual and great. The Jeans/shoes in the foreground really set off the guy in the background nicely. I would've preferred the tv and the cigarette not to be there, only because the cigarette sends off a different message to me, and the TV makes it feel a bit cluttered. The flash was too close so the shoe became waaay overexposed and blown out, i know the bottom of chuck's aren't white so it shouldn't really look like that. you would've had a better exposure by stopping it down a couple of stops. The detail in the jeans and the grain structure definitely give it that Ol' Skoo feel, that's why Film is such a great medium, you can't fake that stuff in digital. It hurts to see the heel and the toe cropped like that. remember, compose first then take the shot, always try to find a different angle to make the shot much more memorable. With that said, you know this is my favorite out of this series. one last thing, the hand sticking out of nowhere on the left, i know it's the chuck's' owner's hand, but it's distracting and kinda comes out of nowhere. I'm just nitpicking.

Anyway, i like the shots, definitely got the Vintage feel to them and they seem thought out very well. Not like some squids who go out and just shoot every random bit out there. My photo teacher gave me some great advice. Figure out what you want to shoot today, and shoot it. Don't go out there and waste film, give yourself a theme and stick to it. Sure the first few shots might be exactly what you wanted, but toward the end you might have found different tangents that relate to what you began shooting. You might even end up with something completely different than what you began with, but at least you had an artistic vision
