Critics: keep in mind Dan was chemically fucked up and just messing around with his camera at the time. Not bad at all considering the effort/conditions involved.

Dan, all of the shots have a lot of overexposure but it actually works well on the 2nd and 3rd photos. If the shoes on the 4th shot and the pole in the 1st shot weren't overexposed they would have been much better photos.

If you are using a built in flash, then there isn't too much you can do about it (try turning the flash level down, but it won't help that much). Next time, try using an auxillary light source, and either bounce it off something to diffuse it, or use a soft box if possible.

Overall, I love them all, you have a great style (not your hair though). They have a kick ass feel to them.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

I like the first one the best. Nice contrast of geometric shapes. The dried out pine needle (?) or whatever it is really makes the shot.

I'd agree with Gr00ve's comments about the 2nd and 3rd shots.

Fourth one is good, but too many similar images like it have already been done. Like the poster for the movie THE GRADUATE with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. There's another similar photograph (can't think of the artists name) that you see at Z Gallery stores (here in Los Angeles anyway) as well. It's a black and white photo with a women sitting in front of a vanity (shot from the side; head is not visible) with a guy wearing blue jeans and no shirt (head is also not visible) standing (out of focus) in the background facing the lens. I think your photo is good, but it's just too similar to something that's been done before. To me, a great photo makes the viewer wonder what was going on at that moment. What were the people thinking when the photo ws shot. What happened after the shot was taken? When I look at your photo, it makes me think, "I wonder if he was consciously thinking of THE GRADUATE poster when he framed the shot?" because it's so similar. Not saying you can't shoot things that have already been done, just gotta differentiate your stuff with what's already out there; already in pop culture. Make it your own; make it unique. Kind of like covering a song. For example, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS cover of SUSPICIOUS MINDS; SONIC YOUTH's version of SUPERSTAR by the CARPENTERS; SMASHING PUMPKIN's version of LANDSLIDE by FLEETWOOD MAC; the song WILD THING covered by X; RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS version of STEVIE WONDERS HIGHER GROUND; the SEX PISTOL's version of MY WAY by FRANK SINATRA. All are great covers of classic songs, but are uniquely performed and not just note for note performances of the original (better) version (like DIXIE CHICS version of LANDSLIDE or MADONNA's cover of AMERICAN PIE). When you listen to these last two covers you think, wasn't bad, but wasn't better than the original..... so why even bother.

read Gillany. The Graduate was about a young college student (Hoffman) being seduced by an older woman. Think "Mrs. Robinson" by the Beatles.
