    Unofficial Welding Thread?

Hey guys. Picked up this "Chicago Electric Mig-100" welder as my first welder. I welded my selector rod with it and my skid plate, but it all of a sudden stopped "arcing" I guess the word is. I know just about nothing when it comes to welding. Basically when I ground what I wanna weld and get the wire on it nothing happens. But it indeed did work. Any thoughts ?

UPDATE: Fixed it, loose ground wire

Fuse? Check polarity Cables if the polarity can be reversed.

I was going to say Fuse as well, may be an internal.

The only things I could think of would be a fuse or a physical connection not hooked up properly somewhere.

Chicago Electric is your first problem.

Second problem, is that gasless welders suck ass. I've been welding for about 10 years and have come to the conclusion that if you don't have gas, don't bother welding.

Gas welders are awesome, definitely makes welding much cleaner.

But this is for small stuff and I'm not looking to weld my television to my tire anytime soon so this will do!

At least you're not in denial! Seriously though for best results without gas make sure to hit your surfaces with a angle grinder first. Contaminates are what ruin a weld.

I take it you've never had to weld outdoors?

+1. Nothing like having the shielding gas get blown away.

Gas welding is great for "pretty" welds. No splatter, smoother beads.. However, you will always be able to get more penetration with innershield wire.

It all depends on the job at hand.

well I kinda renamed the title since this thread kinda seems to be taking off

What's the best way to reduce splatter with a gasless flux core mig?
I know it'll never produce the same results as with gas, but I'd like my welds as cleanas I can get them!
