might be picking up 95 525i on wednesday

has 180,000 miles, auto, immaculate exterior and interior with intolerably clean engine bay and paint.

I was just looking of some quick things to look at for my quick inspection. What tends to go out at this point, I mean? I see plenty of them on boards and cl in mid 200k's and around 300k, so they've got to be pretty snazzy.

It's a little more than I usually see them for, $4200, but I might be able to negotiate. It might be worth it if the engine was kept in the same shape that the cosmetics were.

540s get absolute shit for gas. I'm not looking for the v8 power, just want an e34 for a dd. 540s go for the same price as 525 around here for whatever reason.

I'm not asking you guys to judge this specific car really, just wondering if there are certain issues I really should look for in the e34 as I've never owned one. I also wanted to get input on price, because it seems high, but I see much worse everywhere else in the area.

there's a black 540i that's really clean as well for only $3000, but the gas....

you can buy a deece e39 with that money. 525/528i. Look for an m30 car.
              They sound beautiful upon acceleration.

                        there's also an 01 6speed 540 for 4700. Around 170k.

I'd rather have the sexiness of the e34 though

Get about 2 or 3 extra window regulators...everything else has been good on my dads 95 525i and he's got about 165,000 on it.

Aside from basic maintenance, the window regulator and the radiator/water pump have been the only issues really. I did have to replace the igntion tumbler though.

Go with 540/6 mileage isnt that bad, my e32 740i with 200000 miles got 22mpg daily mostly back roads a bit spirited driving and all highway going down to south carolina I got 28mpg at 75 mph! ohh and delete the muffler and put straight pipes off the resonator and a cold air intake it will sound amazing. Not trying to hate on the 525 but a 2.5l is small and a bit underpowered for a 5 series, prob wont get more than 2 or 3 mpgs better and 100hp less.
