    Neighbor Question

A window on the neighbor’s house has a screen that is tattered and torn, making their house look abandoned. Every time I walk down the hall, I can see their window through our guest bedroom window. So can anyone who visits us.

The people that live in that house are very nice to us, but do not speak with any of their other neighbors; I assume something happened before we moved in (seven years ago) that stands to this day. I want to address the window screen issue, but I don’t want to risk our relationship with them either.

Should I bring the screen to their attention or just keep quiet since it’s not making any impact on us other than it being an eyesore.

    Please vote.

Just a screen, no big deal. And don't offer to pay for it, that would be a swift punch in the gut. Maybe if they are mowing you can do the same and maybe chit chat about lawn shit and somehow mention the screen?

That's great advice, Brandon. I was thinking of just picking up a screen at HD and giving it to them, but now I wont.

Or you could fix it for them:

You could mention you are fixing a storm door screen and have left over and fix it for them.

MUCH cheaper and all you need is screen and a flat head. You really don't need a roller, flat head works just fine. Plus it is a simple 5min task that could show then you care, I do it all the time: mow a lawn, fix a lock or install a door. Just simple things I do for a living that I can do for friends in a few minutes.

Like F4 said its just a screen its not a big deal, close your blinds if it bugs you that much. Its not your house so dont worry about it, its not like the shutters a are falling off of it or the roof is caving in.

The fact that I am asking should indicate that I am not, right? No HOA btw.

^^I'm pointing to the post above mine.

Mention it to your neighbor if you feel like it - but IMO you should just mind your business. If it bothers you so much be a kind neighbor and replace it for them. An e30 in my neighborhood was missing a kidney and it was driving me crazy. I left a spare on their hood and voila - good vibes all around.

If it's where you can reach it, just rip it down yourself... I'm sure they won't even notice if they haven't paid enough attention to fix the thing. I'm sure the bare window will look a lot better than a tattered screen.

Honestly, I'd be pissed all to hell if my neighbor asked me to fix or repair something of MY HOUSE! Best advice, like mentioned before, go to hardware store and get a replacement if you think they're not gonna fix it and keep it in your garage (make it look like it's just been laying around). Then point it out in the middle of a lawn or shrub conversation and be like, "Oh your window screen is torn. I have an extra__________if you'd like to have it."

Of you just can pop a new one on when no one is around. It's not like they're gonna get pissed, take it down and put a torn one back up.
