    Well, this sucks...

So I found out that I have a torn ACL in my left knee due to an injury 2 years ago. When I got the knee checked out two years ago, the dr said it was all good and healed. Over time it started to hurt more and more, but it wasnt too bad until recently when i noticed my knee pops out of its socket and makes me fall to the floor :/ I now need to have an ACL construction surgery where they basicall creat a new one and drill through my bones to make it fit and hold it in with screws.

Has anyone had this done before? Pics welcome

    That sucks.
I was at a gig in April last year, got smashed in the moshpit and tore my ACL. I didn't go to the doctors till about 8 weeks later in June (knee kept collapsing on me) and got the news.
I had my surgery in December 2011, went into Op on a Friday at 7:30am and woke up at 1:30pm, doped up on morphine for 2 days and got out Sunday night at about 10:30pm. They removed a large piece of hamstring, drilled through my knee and pulled the muscle through, attaching it either side with screws.
I was on crutches for about 4/5 weeks (luckily it was over holiday period) but due to a mixup at the hospital I didn't start physio till like 8 weeks after the op instead of like, 4 weeks, which means im currently behind, but making good progress.
I just hit 6 months post-op and still having physio check in's every 6 weeks.
It's starting to get stronger but it still has a long way to go. At least im stable on it and know I can support myself without thinking about it.
I found out last week that because the muscles on the outside of my thigh are stronger than the inside, its pulling my kneecap over when I put certain weight on it, so I have to tape my knee up while doing my physio every day.
They told me it would be 12 months (depending on how hardcore I do my physio) until I can do full contact sports/activities again.

The main thing is your age, I was 24 when I tore mine, they said that due to my young age they would replace it, where someone 30-35+ they said they may probably think about removing the acl altogether.

Just for a time reference example, I'm seeing Simple Plan tonight and will be taping up/velcro brace my knee just for some piece of mind as I usually do now at gigs, I can jump (up and down, which is actually one of my physio actions) with care as long as I down go off balance or askew ect.
I've been told that at my current state, at 6 months, I can't re-injure my knee from normal activities, the graft is strong enough to support itself, I would have to re-tear it in the same way as before for it to go again.

    Good luck!

take the time to find a really good knee doctor. Research around abit. I went to some dude in la jolla that was really sports oriented ect. cant remember his name tho ha.

I did mine up real nice after eating shit hard at a local track on my dirtbike. FML.

Be glad its your ACL. its the easiest one to fix and the recovery time is quick.

I've got a lot of classmates who have had ACL issues including partial/full tears with and without lig. replacements. most of them stay pretty active and have very few issues performing athletically. IIRC they were saying like 6-12 weeks to full recovery but can walk shortly after their surgeries

Replacements are getting really really good these days, document whatever you can about your experience - if only for my morbid curiosity

I feel for ya man, I have no cartilage left, a torn meniscus and a partially torn PCL in my left knee and I'm only 45. Doc says he could do a knee replacement but I'm a bit on the young side as they don't last that long, tough it out for a few years and then we'll do it.

I love hobbling around like a 90 year old.
