IDK either. It'd solve the whole problem. Worried about paint dust on the sidewalk? Maybe you should BULLDOZE YOUR ASHES OF A HOUSE CAUSE IT'S MAKING MINE LOOK BAD.

I remember a time when working on cars was looked up to and not frowned upon. Oh yeah, that was the industrial age...when neighbors actually got along and didn't turn on each other over petty shit.

perfect solution, remove the car, and put in a meth lab. bet they dont think working on a car is so bad then.......

Thankfully I have cool landlords, and a non windowed garage door. HOA's blow ass. Dont most of them have something better to do than worry about whether the garbage can is in by 6 pm?? oh thats right, most are populated by 40 cat owning, have nothing better to do than bitch old maids that couldnt get laid by a blind man.
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

My initial plan was to take an e30, strip it to bare metal and let it rust over in the driveway.

Oh yeah, with current tags, reg stickers, insurance, and current state inspection. Follows all the rules, it's just an eye sore.

I think I might also hang up a bunch of democratic/obama posters/stickers/flags on my lawn. (by no means this represents my political views btw, it'll just be fun since I live in a predominantly military/southern area)

i recently bought a house and i specifically told my agent no fucking HOA's becasue i had rented in one and it was a pain in the fucking ass. Got a noise complaint one month then 6 months later another so they fined me. I was like WTF 6 months apart i'm pretty sure i'm excussed of the first one by now. I fought it and won, but fuck them for wasting my time. they do it because most people will just pay it so they don't have a confrontation.

but your rule says 18b. No major repairs of any motor vehicle which shall cause the vehicle to remain inoperable at the end of one day will be conducted upon any portion of the Common Elements, including driveways.
which to me means you can do major work but by the end of the day you should be able to drive your car on the road. which if it's just paint you should be able to.

how about you just clean your driveway everyday so nobody knows WTF your doing, old people always be complaining.

The uneducated HOA-bashing in this thread is comical. At least around here, HOAs are in place to help maintain a standard, which helps preserve property values, which means more money in YOUR pocket when it comes time to sell your house.

The most likely scenario for getting an HOA letter is when one of your neighbors complains. Chances are they are the ones who have nothing better to do than snoop around your property or stay abreast of what you're doing with your garage door open and power tools buzzing away. The HOA / Property Manager has to respond accordingly, because that's what they're charged with doing (paid in the PM's case, volunteering in the case of the board members).

tl;dr: Can't live with the R&Rs of an HOA? Then don't move into a neighborhood that has one.

Are you sure you didn't mess with your CM's daughter before hand?
Just send your CM a nice urn filled with play sand and label it as kim jong ill.

also the HOA i was at you couldn't do any car work at all, not even change the oil or wax your car. but i did everything just leave the door down and when they come to the door you just don't answer it.
I've looked through a window and they saw me but just went straight back to what I was doing, ignoring them. As long as they don't see what I'm doing all they can do is speculate which doesn't fly. One time someone came to my door and I was watching TV with the window open. we looked at each other and I just went back to watching TV while they sat there outside just watching me watch TV hoping I would answer the door LOL shit was funny.

                            smokes, lets go.

You should probably run for the board on the platform of disbanding the hoa. More neighbors than you think probably want this.

What if you were painting a table in your garage? Is it illegal to paint tables? Dye clothes? Have your grandaughter use sidewalk chalk INSIDE THE GARAGE? There are plenty of reasons some red could be leaking onto your driveway.... they are just trying to find a reason to 'get you'. Heaven forbid you tell them they are wrong because they can just legally change the terms of the HOA so that they can get you.

Your HOA has stepped over the line into george orwell 1984 or nazi-isms and should therefore be disbanded so that grandaughters can use red sidewalk chalk inside garages without getting complaint letters and wasting everyones time and money. The hoa should exist for neighborhood trash/recycling/lighting/eyesore issues only, not as a private police force for people complaining about painting cars, flamingos, whatever.

I spend all day dealing with building codes and HOA bullshit and it is stupid and unnecessary. NC has serious code issues while right next door, 20 minutes away, TN does not have a building code (well it does but there is no state inspection agency to give me headaches).

Wear a suit. Go to board meetings. Breath down their necks. If any one of them leaves a walker or grand-child outside file a complaint. Deep down inside they hate laws like this too as soon as they are not favoring them. I've heard of builders locking jackass building inspectors in basements before, petitioning to get them fired, and straight up knocking them out. Does it do any good? Nope. You gotta cut the jackass off from his power source by reading the letter of the law better than he can and then firing him for being incompetent.

/rant goodluck with your situation! If you need 35 e30s to show up one day for a cookout that could be really fun.

                              Thanks for the words everyone.

I just ended up cleaning the drive way and having a buddy of mine do the paint for me.

Since I got this offense, I know that my house is under more surveillance so I'm going to see how many warnings and citations I can rack up. We're given notices and not fined until either the third or fourth warning.

I wonder how much my neighbors like electronic music. I still have my party equipment from my college days.

(I'm joking, but I did respond with a formal letter and such. I don't want to waste my time and effort at any of these meetings. Also, I just found out that to go to these meetings, I have to make a request to show up. Why can't I just show up? I don't want to waste my time.)
