Cell Phones Newest And Best Thread

While I'm currently looking for a new cell phone I was reading reviews and was like how the hell do I trust what these people are saying. Then I thought who better to ask then my brilliant fellow E30 owners.

Here's the dilemma; a while back I was purchased a HTC Inspire 4G. It's a piece of shit I get messages at least 10 minutes, shitty service miss half my calls, doesn't even have 4G, and freezes at the worst times(watching porn/on r3v). I don't want to waste money on another shit phone. I'm leaning towards another Iphone but not sure I want to go that route so does R3v have any suggestions.

Both my Inspire, and my Vivid have been excellent phones with the inspire only having one problem. When I rooted it I needed the radio fix. Solved it right up.
I gave the inspire to the woman back in Feb, and she uses it every day. We don't have 4g in our service area, so it's lack of it never bothered me.

You're probably just doing it wrong.

When the gingerbread update came out, did you just OTA it? Because that's probably where the whole thing got botched up.

HTC phones really don't like OTA updates.

Whats OTA? And I've always updated my phone. This makes sense cause it use to be fast is there anyway I can go back

You did OTA, or "over the air" updating.

There's two options for them. OTA, or manual. OTA updating is basically upgrading, whereas manual is starting from scratch.

There's most definitely ways to go back, but gingerbread is great on it (The womans has an ICS ROM on it and it's bloody fantastic), and you have to make sure you have all your data in order.

So I should re update my phone manually?

I would highly recommend it IF you plan on keeping it. The inspire is still a very good phone, but it's age is certainly showing. I wouldn't blame you at all for wanting a newer one. Just don't discount HTC, because their phones are fantastic. It's the ATT software/ROMS that completely destroy them.

The caveat to the whole procedure is that it's fairly complicated for you to do it, and it requires research. It's just like jailbreaking an Iphone, except you have TONS of ROMS to choose from.

This will be the first place to start.
The HTC Inspire 4G was one of the last smartphones to release with a single core processor before the dual core processors became prevalent in smartphones during the spring of 2011. The Inspire 4G features a 4.3" WVGA touchscreen with a 480x800 resolution. On the back of the phone, you'll find a...

Ok I'm downloading it off the computer. Thanks dude you might have just saved me a couple hundred bucks. I've always been scared to root my phone. Is it really that hard?

Nope, they made it pretty much one click over a year ago.

Make sure all your contacts are saved to google, it makes ROM switching tons easier. Never losing anything for contacts/dates/etc.

What do you think of the Blackberry Bold 9900? Data charges are damn expensive in my country hence the want to lean on another Bold, my 9700 hasn't given me a days trouble in 2yrs.

Can you give me a link that tells me what to do?

BEFORE you do this, RESEARCH. It's easy to brick the phone. It's not hard at all to get them back, but without knowing the possible bad outcomes, you won't know what to do.

and here's a good guide to start with.
