That happened to my one roommate in florida like 3 times. Each time he just got a bunch of his friends together, staked out the tow yard, when no one was there he would cut open a huge ass hole in the fence to drive his car out. You can't be found guilty for stealing your own property back he said, and if they didn't catch you tresspassing they are screwed. Funny shit watching him come back in the wee hours of the morning with his truck carrying a bolt cutter.

this is true. they have to charge you with trespassing and something like removal of an object from private property. i know someone that was charged for taking a truck that they were having work done to out of a shop's locked up lot because they were holding it from them.
