You're thinking of the GRiDPad.
the 1989 MS-DOS OG tablet.
4.5 lbs, 10mhz processor, 2 MB of system memory.

Funny you should say that, because that's exactly why I got TF101. Except mine has a keyboard, and a 17 hour battery life, and all the functionality I need in a portable computer.
It's the perfect thing to take to class and take notes, never having to worry about plugging in to a socket. It does the R3v, and every other website just fine. It has USB plugs, so I can plug an external hard drive into it.
It also has an SD, and MicroSD card reader built in. So when I'm out and about with either the Gopro, or the T2i, I can just pull the memory card out of the camera, put it in the tablet, and "Oh hey, these shots look fantastic". I don't have to lug around a laptop that's considerably bigger that only has 2 hours of charge to empty out my full SD cards. I did not buy this tablet for this purpose, I had it before both of the cameras. It was just a handy thing instead of buying a shit ton of SD cards.
They have their purpose. Some people think that all computers need to do everything. Quite frankly, if the surface has a great battery life. Even if it's a core i3 processesor, chances are I will be buying it purely on that aspect and replace my tf101 with it.
To each their own though.
Imsotyrred, I see your 1988 paper, and raise you a 1968 film

because no one had the idea for a tablet pc before then...
The document describes a proposed design for a tablet computer called the "Tablet: The Personal Computer of the Year 2000" from researchers at the University of Illinois. The tablet is envisioned as a portable notebook-sized device with a high-resolution touchscreen interface that can be used with a stylus to write and draw directly on the screen. It would run a variety of applications through touchscreen icons and menus. The goal is to combine the flexibility of pen and paper with the power of computation and communication in a lightweight, easy to use format.

it's not a laptop you can connect a keyboard to it if you want. I agree with LBjefferies, it'd just a big ass phone that doesn't make calls. Next we will be holding touch pads up to our head.Leave a comment:

try 2000

dammit microsoft.
wait, did that video claim that was steve balmer? that totally wasn't balmer.
idk because that really goes against what google wanted to do with android (some of you may know that google did NOT create android, they bought a company that did, and refined it. Nearly the same thing that Apple did with the iPod (the iPod was actually being developed elsewhere, but they bought out the designer))
google's philosophy with android:
everyone is welcome to use it how they want. here, we're even giving you the source code and instructions and a free developer kit and we're making this all publicly available so that everyone can use it and put it on whatever device they want to.
What this means is that it saves tech developers tons of time and money by giving them a platform that can be easily customized. This also means that it will proliferate through more devices a lot quicker, and this also means that google ad-mob is going to reach way more people, way more often, and bring them way more revenue.Leave a comment:
