    A new one from overseas!

    Hi together,

my name is Benjamin.. but feel free to call me Ben.
I'm 26 years old and from germany. Not from bavaria like our cars, but from the north. The city called Hannover. Maybe someone has ever heard.

I have two E30. A 318i (M40) Convertible and a 318i (M40) Touring. Ok, it's more one and a half than two because the Touring was disassembled in the last days. Sorry, but for him the end has come.

My real eyeball is my convertible. I have some big plans with it. Bought in February 2008 now it waits for its restoration and its new engine. It gets a M52B28 from the E36 328i.

So far I was only active at the german E30 forum called e30-talk. I have also developed a digital gauge. Visually, it's similar to the old Alpina instruments. In case someone is interested in more information or pictures here is the project page: bmw-dzi.de.

I've registered here to talk to people from other countrys but with the same interest. Also i've been looking for some information about some features of the US-E30 that german-E30's never had.

Ok, enough text for now. In germany in this moment it's 01:47 o clock in the night. So it's tuesday. I'm happy to be here.

Cheers & good night (for me)! :)

PS: sorry for my bad english!

Thanks a lot for the nice welcome.

Massimo: I try hard! :) My convertible is build in July 1992. In germany by now it's more and more difficult to find a E30 with good consistency, too. Particularly the models before the facelift. There a many cars at the market but most of them are crap or much expensive. I think for the future here in germany the models with 6-cylinder and the convertibles have the biggest demand and the prices will not fall. And the M3 is already a complete other league. But I'm happy with my car. I'm not searching.

maneeno325e: Thanks! Yes, in germany i sell the gauge. The price is 586$ (469€) without sensors. If you're interested or someone else feel free to write me a private message or a mail (info@bmw-dzi.de). I think the shipment costs for instance to the USA is something about 15 - 20$. I also can deliver the needed sensors for almost all of the BMW motors (M20 / M40 / M42 / M50 / M52..). Everyone can choose which values are interesting for him and i will program the gauge for this (always four values at the same time. Choose between: oil-temp. / water-temp. / oil-pressure / fuel-pressure / volt / differential-oil-temp. and so on..). Additional there is a visual warning function. A "!" (exclamation mark) flashes if a value is out of tolerance.

                    Example for oil-temp.:
                    • 0°C - 79°C = "!"
                    • 80°C - 100°C = no "!"
                    • 101°C - ..°C = "!"

The normal area can be choosen free and i will program the gauge for this. At the moment i only can deliver gauges with °c. But i can have a look what to do for °f.

Everything else and other details by pm or mail. ;)

Wschnitz: This is not offensive. I understand what you write. The other way round my english is not better. You had german at school as foreign language? English is the world language so i absolutly have to become better. For me the school and the english lessons are also to long ago in meantime. But I'm practicing. ;)

German language preferred for what? The value titles of the gauge or for my answers here? The value titles can also be choosen freely (example: "oil" or "oil-temp." or "temp of oil"..).

In attachment another two pictures. My convertible last year (with old damaged rims) and my touring (rip). :)

So, wieder genug geschrieben. Danke nochmal für euer Willkommen und viele Grüße aus Hannover.
So again written enough. Thanks again for your welcome and greetings from Hannover.

Really. Wow I would have though somewhere like germany e30's would have been cheap. I paid $8500 for my car with 140,000km.

I love the M42 though so that is good news for me lol.

Wschnitz: OK I understand. But you need °F instead of °C right?

evandael: Hi, danke! Ich verstehe dich gut. Ich glaube deutsch ist auch schwierig zu lernen, richtig? Understand me?! :)

Massimo: In Germany there's a big offer for E30. Many people sell her old BMW for less than 1500$. But mostly this cars are in very bad condition. Many of those people don't cares for their vehicle. So it's not as easy to find a good one as it looks like. And the good ones are more expensive. But thats ok.

I was lucky. I paid 2900$ in 2008 for my convertible and 500$ last year for my Touring. ;) At this time the convertible had 81000 miles behind. Now its something about 91000 miles.

In Germany the 318i E30 always had the M40 engine with 113hp. There ist also a 316i E30 M40 (not as convertible) with 99hp. The cars with M42 are called 318is and are sporty versions with 136hp. But in germany the M42 was always a sedan never a convertible. So, many things are different between Germany and the USA. :)

But in Germany there is a demand for the M42 engine too because this engine is not so often like the M40 or M20.

Ok, now i have a question: if you forgot the key in the ignition switch and open the door is there a chime chiming?
