I dunno who you're kidding, an SR in an E30 is actually a lot more common than you may think.
But, I won't argue against it, regardless of my vehement hatred for the SR.

I too hate SR20's. Just about any other 16v 4 cylinder would be a better choice. The Honda F20/22 would be far better, especially with a turbo.
With that said, I wouldnt hesitate to put an SR20DET into an E30 shell if I got both cheap. It would have to be REALLY cheap though.Last edited by OniKyan; 07-08-2012, 06:33 AM.M20B23 Euro 323i - The Legend Of Ron BurgundrotComment

It isn't that common. There are a few guys running around but, it's not like your gonna find one at every track day or meet you go to.Comment

yes a honda f20 or 22 would be faster, but they're not nearly as cheap. and when you talk about putting a turbo on a motor that didn't come from the factory with a turbo scares me cause this is my daily as well. i need reliability and i want some power so thats why i went with the sr20.I too hate SR20's. That's where I don't like the SR. It's only reliable when left stock. I've watched FAR too many SR humpers have their engines blow chunks all over the track for me to deem them ever reliable.
Most notable day, was at an AutoX that 4 SR's blew.
I understand the Nissan world having owned 3 maxima's, 2 200sx's, and a Pulsar GTI-R. The SR is just one of my less favorite engines. It's a good motor when stock, but they're WAY overhyped and overpriced.
Why have an SR when an S5X can be had for the same price?Last edited by TurboJake; 07-08-2012, 10:00 AM.Comment

sr's are simple and easy to work on, not saying s5x isnt or whatever i wouldn't know. and your saying you dont like SR's because when stock they are reliable? a stock sr can put down 250 to the wheel. for a e30 chassis thats ganna be able to move pretty quick for all stock motor. and built SR's can be just as reliable from past experiences its all about tune. as long as the tune is good and the motor is built your set. but im sure thats how it is for all motors. hahThat's where I don't like the SR. It's only reliable when left stock. I've watched FAR too many SR humpers have their engines blow chunks all over the track for me to deem them ever reliable.

No, I'm saying they're only reliable in my eyes when LEFT stock.
Built SR's CAN be reliable. Like you said it's mostly the tune (Like every motor), but they still like to throw rockers, rods, and shit right out the side of the block.
But, apparently I have to restate what said earlier. I'm not arguing against your decision or against putting it in the E30. Period, your car your choice. Merely just voicing that I really, really don't like the SR.
It is of next to zero addition to the conversation, but it is what it is.Last edited by TurboJake; 07-08-2012, 03:20 PM.Comment

TurboJake is right. The SR20 is a very poorly designed engine, regardless of the tune the head is always going to be trouble.
CA18DET > SR20DET.
