    PSP Opinions

So, it's Christmas time and the parents want to know what I want. What do you guys think of the PSP? Keep in mind, I'm not a huge gamer and haven't owned a handheld since the original gameboy, but I like the idea of watching movies, and ability to have an extra 1 or 2 GB memory card with mp3s, pictures, movies on it. Is the wireless ability just for networking with other PSPs, or is there a built in browser?

Someone at my mom's work is selling one with 2 games (ATV & Twisted Metal) and 1 movie (Pirates of the Carribean) for $215.

    What do you guys think?

I personally wouldn't buy one. The movies are more expensive than DVD's and can only be watched on the PSP. How often do you travel and would use it?

I take long international trips usually once or twice a year and road trips quite a bit more than that. I've done some more research and the update for it does have a wi-fi browser and you can play online wi-fi, which is cool. If I get it I will also get a 1GB card to use it as an mp3/video player as well.

I love my PSP. I use it to play emulators. You know, like SNES, NES, and GameBoy. I have about 1500 games on my PSP. I say go for it!

That sounds cool. I have those on my PC. Can you describe the process (or give a link) on how you get those onto your PSP? Thanks.

            check fanjita.org, there's a newer emulator version. I've got about 100 games too , it rules. :D

does running the cpu @ 333mhz have any long term effects? Wasn't sure becasue i don't know too much about overclocking :-/

Generally overclocking any proccesor will shorten it's life, but the PSP's processor is made to run at 333 mhz, it just doesn't expect most games you use it. They really haven't been out long enought to tell whether or not there will be long term effects... Most stuff does run slow as shit at 222 mhz though...

                      Cool! Thanks for the link.

BTW, why would most of the games out only use 222mhz when the console was designed w/ 333? That's 1/3 of the computing power wasted.

so its impossible for someone to play nonUMD games on a newer version of PSP firmware, im getting one for christmas i think and i would like to beable to do some of the things that homebrew can do but id also like an internet browser and some of the other features the newer versions have

If you want to use homebrew you MUST (atleast right now) have version 2.00 or below. A brand new PSP would have a new version than this. Buy it used on eBay, and make sure the seller checks the firmware version for you.
