PayPal Here - New CC Service

Pretty cool idea. Especially for people who own small businesses, sell a lot of car parts or any tangible items, etc. If I were homeless this would be the first thing I'd get...

    "Oh sorry I don't have any change/cash"
"No problem I take debit/credit cards!"

I just signed up for the hell of it. They send you a free PayPal debit card, a free credit card swiper and it only charges a 2.7% transaction fee. Now my cheap friends can't pull the "I don't have any cash" line. WAAAAM, SCAN!

They are trying to follow the innovators of this stuff, my guess because they may need it.

I think these guys do it right, and have been doing it awhile: https://squareup.com/

I signed up for it the same day another business signed up for square. They have processed thousands of dollars via Square, and, I've only gotten three emails that Here is coming to my area. But its not here yet.

I've got it, and while it does have some features that Square doesn't have, Square has been around longer and has a nicer card reader (PayPal's is HUGE and gaudy).

Nice, you have PayPal's reader? I've been on the "wait list". Using square right now but PayPal's name recognition in itself would make people feel more secure about swiping.

Their merchant services fees are too high comparing to others who offer the same thing.
              It is neat though, yeah.

Oh wait does it not work with a paypal personal account?

We used PayPal at my small business when it started. After getting educated and learning about better options for our model we adopted Recurly. Probabaly not applicable to most people here, but figured I'd add it to the list of competitors/problems of PayPal "coasting".

Recurly is the best subscription management software and recurring billing platform on the market, compatible with leading ERP, CRM, payment gateways, fraud, and tax solutions.

My issue with square up is it's not heavily publicized/known/trusted among those who don't have prior knowledge of it. I would never hand over my CC to someone with a "square up" scanner on their iphone/ipad not knowing where my information is going. However, PayPal has quite the reputation-for payments, security (and disputes too) so that would personally make it more of a comfortable transaction for me.

I got mine in the mail today, already tried it out on myself a couple times (LOL) and a friend today. My buddy wanted me to go get him beer, but only had his credit card...I couldn't use it at the store because obviously our names wouldn't match...So, I saw this as an opportunity to try it out, I charged him $12.00 (a reasonable $0.34 transaction fee of 2.7%) for a 6 pack of some Laugunitas (local beer) and I went to the store and used my own CC.

I'll post some photos/video's of how easy it is, and how good it looks lol. (There's already a million video's out there.)

It's not "huge or gaudy" its a small blue triangle that plugs into your headphone jack lol. Looks neat IMO

....My only issue so far is it won't fit on my iPad with my Otterbox on, and the Otterbox is a BITCH to take off...first world problems lmao...

I've been using square for over 2 years, they have a fantastic POS app and the mobile app is perfect.

I'm getting the PayPal Here system just as a backup, and to see what it's like. I handle 90% of my clients subscriptions via paypal, so I'm curious to work with the reader in person.

As for customers not knowing about Square, over the past two years, I've had more clients who were interested in learning about it, or they thinks it's really cool, but I've never had anyone ever say "oh, I don't trust that".

Awesome. Hope they offer international soon. Card readers/training is horribly expensive here.

Square and Paypal are the only 2 merchant services I trust. I've been using it for years.

Ive been thinking about this also but rates are high compared to normal merchant services I use now. It would be great for shows though if you were inclined to sell stuff. Ive had 12k CC transactions since I started accepting cards and not once has anyone ever asked who I used as a provider. I have had a few hundred who didnt want to use Google products. Never had anyone not want to use paypal I hate paypal but am forced to accept it
