    Mercedes 300e?

I am checking out a 93 300e tomorrow for DD duty. I have done some research, and have searched here but only found pointless arguments about the 190e heh so I ask thee, Rev O.T. what is your view on them/ what should I know about them?

tranny's in the late models of the w124 are not great past 200k, its a solid car. I prefer the diesel models over the gas

oh and the cluster will more than likely have issues at some point, i've seen better electronics in cars before too.

93, unless its a very early car, will be a M104. (silver valve cover, twin cam with adjustable inlet cam)

2 versions, 2.8 722.4 trans or 3.9 722.3 trans, the .3 is stronger but either is fine.

          Common 104 problems.

Headgasket oil leaks, there is a blind oil port, right front of the head, goes no where. After some time, the headgasket gives up and it starts leaking. a 8mmX1.25 blind plug in the block fixes it right up.

Engine harness, 93 is right in the middle if the biodegradable insulation. No biggie, just a little pricey.

Coils, if it still has blue labels, buy new ones along with wires and non resistor plugs (bosch is only availble through the dealer in non resistor)

Waterpumps are a bit of a motherfucker to replace.

Beyond that and the normal old car stuff, solid cars.

            ^3.9 typo, 3.0l

M104 ftw. Comparable to M50nv, indestructible, with the small quirks stated above.
Also, their MAF sensors die around 140K miles. Easy replacement, only buy Bosch. Symptoms are bad idle, longer starts, stutters around 4000rpm.
The engine should start right up, have 0 vibration, very calm idle, no valve sounds (they don't suffer the BMW ticking) and if you hear a humming/whining/turbine noise for the first 30 seconds, its fine, its the exhaust air injection pump.

my mom had a 300e. What I hated about mercedez is that there is virtually no online community or ways to find parts. You'll find posts about owners bitching about how much it cost them to fix a problem at the shop lol.

My grandparents/aunt have *MINT* 92 sitting in their garage in Tennessee.
It has like 90k miles, and she keeps throwing money at it, overly-refreshing the parts and what not.
She says it's mine whenever, but I cannot fiscally justify picking it up.
