I started on a F4i, and that was the 1st bike I had ever ridden. I was scared shitless at first and I think thats the way it should be because if you have no respect for it it will kill you.

After riding that for a while I upgraded to a Duc 900ie. Both of those were really fun both in very different ways. The 600 was faster but easier to relax in and just ride, although it had a more agressive seating pos, where as the Duc had tons of torque and riding it was more technical because of the susp.

But as I started riding less and less I kept downgrading. The last bike I had was a KTM 200EXC. It was a plated 2 stroke and it was awesome to raise hell in, that was also the first bike I ever went down on lol

I dont see how I could ever need a liter bike. Specially now a days the 600s are beast!! Then again I'm 140# lol so an experienced 200+ rider might see it fit....?

Have you gone out and bought all the appropriate Icon riding gear to go with it?
The 1198 isn't that much more expensive. $7k for a cbr $10k for 1198. Really thirsty to feel that L twin torque and hear the sound. Also all these Jap bikes are kinda ugly to be with their different colors and decals. I bash Jap cars, I don't know why I'm riding a Jap bike, especially considering the Duc is better, and now German owned BTW.

My personal experience thus far is with riding motorcycles is this; I don't see anyone has to start on a 600. Its not on bit safer than a 1000. Also riding with gear on makes me more wreckless, especially the helmet.
I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

Low side a Duc and let me know how much those repairs are, not to mention the maintenance to go with one vs. a Japanese bike.

You've been riding for 2 months, how about you learn to ride before you justify yet another bike you can't utilize fully. Your personal experience is hardly even worth listening to, you're in no position to decide whether or not it's reasonable for someone to start on a supersport+ bike.

lol I think he was breaking on you, Icon gear was probably a squid reference.

I don't really like riding on the street, sportbikes are only fun to me in the corners and on country roads there are too many variables.

That said, trackdays are awesome, and one of the most fun things I do (though it's been a few years).

unsure I agree with the progression. I like riding literbikes for the powerband, not a fan of the added weight though, I like the flickability (if that's a word) of 600's. Though I was a big fan of last years zx10r when I rode one in daytona

Noone needs a literbike. Noone outgrows a literbike. They are fun, but not outgrown. Noone outgrows a 600. They are not really much slower than a literbike, just have easy cruising in low rpm's then wind it out when you get to 10k.

When you have no chicken strips, worn out knee pucks, and do it all safely, that's where the fun is

I have to interject and say that your not 100% correct.

the maintenance on a ducati is vastly different than previous models. I have owned and have several close friends that own ducati's. My valve adjustment with oil change coolant flush and a slew of other repairs cost me around 400$. And doing the maintenance yourself isn't very difficult. Yes OEM ducati fairings are a bit more but not by a terrible amount.

              Have you owned a ducati?

As far as an 1198 as your first bike... Bad idea. An 848 would be a better fit and an 848 evo can generally run faster track times than its larger 1098 or 1198 versions. The v-twin setup is very manageable for a new rider and doesn't rev as high. Much easier to ride in town IMO.

You don't even wear a helmet?

Enjoy your head for the short time you keep it. I would be dead now if it weren't for my helmet when I hit the deer. When I highsided, my helmet was way cheaper to replace than the plastic surgery I would have needed to reconstruct my face.

Seriously man, you really don't seem to have any clue what you're up against. But hey, it's your life, enjoy it as you will. But when you fuck yourself up, don't come crying to us.

My Point exactly. I don't thing anyone who's criticizing me for saying there's no safety difference between a 600 and a 1000 has actually ridden one back to back. When you do that then it becomes apparent that a 600 is nearly as fast.

I could give a fuck about maintenance. Its just the cost that comes along with riding a Ducati. In my head its almost like buying a Ferrari then crying about maintenance, does anyone actually do that?

What you guys don't know is I'm into motorcycles for the same reason I'm into my e30's. You don't see a set of C1 wheels on a caged turbo coupe at some autocross event in my sig do you? I'm not out here leaning so low that I scrape my knees, bitches are drawn to em, hence I have one. Chicago's a big grid anyway. I don't' want to die on this thing trying to show someone I'm no a squid. Having said that it is fun as hell and I did manage to put 3k miles on that R1 in about 1 month and another 500 on the CBR.
