picked up new Daily driver...Skyactiv Mazda

brand new 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv "SPORTS!"

leather, auto wipers/headlights, 6 spd fully loaded.

real world testing have yielded over 560miles to a tank of gas (48L), with a zingzingy 2L 155hp engine.

pretty pumped to pick it up this evening and put it to the test.

I burnt through $20 of 94octane on my boosted M20 last night in about 1hr during a spirited cruise.

    anyone else pickup a skyactiv?

I've considered it, but I'm curious how long it's going to be before the next redesign. The current body style is getting a bit long in the tooth. Nothing bad about that, but I'm inclined to hold off to see what the next gen brings and if I'm not feelin it, maybe get a good deal on a leftover.

Haven't gone for a test drive yet, but it's definitely on my radar. For now I'll keep piling the miles on the e30. Interested to hear impressions here on the board though, keep us updated.

I really like this car. I think it has the potential to be a great DD for most people.

          yeah, tell me about it.
our previous DD was a 2007 Mazda 3 GT 5spd..it's a bit of a latteral move, but it's proven itself to be a fun DD for sure.

I'll keep you all updated on my MPG results.

I'm surprised by the number of people on r3v who bite on new cars. Fuck car payments.

              Wife has a 2010 Mazda 3, I had Speed 3 for a little while.

Great little car for her and handles/turns nicely enough for a FWD.

Car Payments are okay if you can invest that other money at an interest rate higher than your APR.

Well, was paying 6% financing on a 2007 car that would of been paid off by 2014.

Got a good trade in the 2007 and 0% financing on 2012 which will be paid off by 2015... Full warranty, better mpg etc, plus $44 a month cheaper... You do the math hero....

                      Purchased 2007 Mazda 3 gt in 2008.

Put 2k down, 0% at 36month term, car is owned by 2015 and it'll be 3 years old by than, and be a good contender for a descent trade up.

I don't really think you'll understand until you're a bigboy, and cutting every corner to save a dime is something to brag about.

Yes, depreciation hits the moment you drive off the lot.
Did I want another "previously owned" car with 15-20k miles?
                      Nah.

For less money, full warranty, 0%interest and a short term I'm golden.

More money saved to throw at the e30.

in support of the OP's decision...

"Sometime's ya just gotta say "what the fuck" and make your move".

Sometimes it's not about saving afew pennies in the long run. Sometimes it's about just going for what you want, regardless of the price.

Would I spend that much on a Mazduh?
hells naw! but to each their own.
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

I just bought to same car too. I replaced my Jeep cherokee for it. 18 mpg in the Jeep and we are getting 38-39mpg on our DD route in the Mazda. AND I can still fit two mountain bikes in it. Great little car.

I just bit on a CPO which works for me, they extend the warranty so you arent driving something right off the lot that could fail you and someone else got to enjoy the big depreciation hit. Just picked up an 08 328 with a warranty till the end of next year for $20k less than the lady bought it new.

Yeah, a car payment sucks, but I got it for a very low rate (if you have good credit the rates are incredibly low) and a decent price so its only a few hundred a month. For that I get something with all of the bells and whistles, reliable, super comfortable and a great highway cruiser (everything the E30 isnt).

I just need to get those damned run flat tires off.
                              Im now E30less.
