    Increasing amounts of spam bots

Never thought that we MIGHT have to resort to E30Tech style of signing up?

8mo? I think there are people waiting well over a year now lol. But there was a time last year I think it was that we had to lock out any new members till James could see what he could do to detour the spammers.

If YOU think the spambots are frustrating, try being one of us moderators. ;)

I kill a lot of them in the middle of the night that you guys don't even see.

You know I've heard nothing but good things about google's recaptcha... I use it on my site currently, but it hasn't been live long enough for the bots to discover it yet. Before I closed down the old site however, I would have about 30 sign ups a day all being bots. Sucks.

So, what methods are out there that can catch the bots?

it seems we are getting a ton recently that all seem to ramble senselessly about some movie or TV show or something.

Charge $5 for newbs registering or free if you are referred by current member with at laast 100+ post. Done. Easy peasy.

PS. And donate the money to me for my car parts since I came up with the idea :)

                      No

Or you can refund the $5 after a few threads/posts, like a security deposit, just to ensure that your not a bot/spam. Kinda complicated but eh.

Little bit out there, but why not make a new signup dedicated sub forum that's only accessible to those with zero posts. Lock it down so they can only have 3 or 4 characters for their first post. Basically, a catchall noob forum where they can only say "hi". Just make the instructions on how to do so clear in the confirmation email.

Spammers don't pay attention to that shit. They just click the activation link, post new, copy, paste, post. Wash and repeat.

That said, recaptcha has been working great for CS-12. I haven't had to delete shit for spambots but maybe once a month.
