You know I've heard nothing but good things about google's recaptcha... I use it on my site currently, but it hasn't been live long enough for the bots to discover it yet. Before I closed down the old site however, I would have about 30 sign ups a day all being bots. Sucks.E30 Dinan Turbo

Little bit out there, but why not make a new signup dedicated sub forum that's only accessible to those with zero posts. Lock it down so they can only have 3 or 4 characters for their first post. Basically, a catchall noob forum where they can only say "hi". Just make the instructions on how to do so clear in the confirmation email.
Spammers don't pay attention to that shit. They just click the activation link, post new, copy, paste, post. Wash and repeat.
That said, recaptcha has been working great for CS-12. I haven't had to delete shit for spambots but maybe once a month.Comment
