Well I used to run an ISP back when I was in college. When I first started there they had 50-60 external 56k modems all mounted in a rack. I turned the volume up on all of them once and got to listen to all the people dialing in. You want to talk about screeching!! I loved it when I switched us over to the HP TC units that handled 50 lines all in one box.

                    noice . . .

I forgot how bad dial up was (hadn't had it since 1998) until we got our place in Florida and I had no high-speed. Just hooked up the WiFi there with the Cable connection last weekend. Its nothing like that speed, though.

Do remember that at one point in the interweb's history, it was primarily text with very few pictures. There wasn't all that much you had to download to slow your browing down.

Now everything is full of pictures, buttons and all that dumb shit. Surfing on 56k now is a lot different than it used to be.

                          True.

I remember back when I had (gasp) AOL - around 1994-1995. Internet was sort of a sideline there then. And it was mostly things that were text.

I used to use GOPHER all the time before the web, thought that was the coolest. Way better than all the local BBS's that I frequented before that.

It's a direct fiber connection to my cable provider. Supposed to be 4mb-4mb, but they don't have the ability to cap the download so right now it's 50mb down - 4mm up.
