      if you were doing the dismal maintenance on time and such then there were other things that needed to be taken care of if it ended up like that.

      probably had a minor over temping issue which damaged the piston rings and or valve stem seals which then caused it to burn oil like a pissed off BP employee.

      and that would explain the evaporation of coolant.
      Of course I didn't give a shit about the car, it was my backup, transmission was getting weak, so why would I replace the intake manifold gasket and a bunch of other shit on a car worth $800?

      But you're definitely the person on this forum that I would look to for maintenance advice. Especially with your awesome reading skills considering I pointed out it USED coolant, in other words wasn't leaking it out, but it LEAKED oil, in other words wasn't burning it.

        How is that head coming Pantless? :snicker:

        @OP's question:

        Lazy, uninformed(most common) or poor. I know a few guys including family that live by "if it is not broken, don't fix it". I live by; "replace it once, forgetta about it"(NYer accent).

          a kid I know took his 2011 EVO into the dealer today to get his oil changed after 11k miles since last change......... THE FUCK!! he told my brother this story, trying to get some sympathy and agreement. The service manager said he wished he could terminate his warranty because he was a dumbass

          i couldnt believe it
          Somehow I miss the point... why is it a bad thing to have an oil change 11k miles after the last one?

          Modern cars just don't require that level of care because consumers have demanded it
          how about I just sit here and LOL for a while.

            I know the EVO is a whole different beast...but my brothers 09 Rabbit recommends 10k oil change intervals. Pretty common with new cars. I do mine every 3k because they start to get quite noisy if I don't.

              I use my toaster every day and only clean it when I smell something burning, and even then at most shake it over the garbage can and expect the bitch to work again....same mentality many have towards cars.

                  Agreed. When I had my sunfire awhile back it was nothing but an a to b car. If it didnt cause a safety issue or possibly cause me to break down, it wasnt getting fixed. It makes more sense to save for a house than needlessly repair power windows or body damage. Im looking for a beater again and those carefree days of just not giving a shit about the car. Cars as a hobby is a different story, but if your commuter has to be pristine then maybe you have some self esteem issues to work out. Driving a beater doesnt mean you're poor, it could just mean you have your priorities straight.

                  I am thankful that people are so anal about car image though, so I can pick up a mechanically perfect car with body damage or peeling paint for pennies on the dollar.
